A question regarding controls (to Devs)

Postby fatehasfans » 01 Jul 2015, 14:26

Hi,
I've sort of managed to grasp the controls and really loving the game (yes there are a few niggles but otherwise a great tennis game). I do have one question however, it concerns the controls. I was wondering why the developer(s) chose to implement the shot-controls the way they are: namely why you need to push Up+Button for short shots (short strike/Drop shot) and Down+Button for long shots (Top spin/Defensive Lob), this is the one gripe I have with the game because it's very confusing, it's like trying to play upside-down, I have to convince my brain to play backwards; that if I want to aim to the far end of the court (which is at the top) then I have to press down and vice-versa! If I want to place a shot at the top left of the court (and I may be running toward that direction) then I need to quickly pull back left?!?!?! It's bonkers! This system messes with my movement too because naturally when I am running towards the ball your natural instinct is to press in the direction you wish to put the but to run toward the ball then have to pull back to make a long shot just goes against the natural order of things.

Can I ask the dev why he/she implemented this and also is there a way around it because I find that I am doing drop shots all the time when really I'm trying to slice the ball long - gah! Very frustrating - everything is grand but this is killing me.

Thanks.

Hello,

1- you can change the controls to your exact liking in Controls -> Remap Strike menu

2- the up/down is designed after the control in a plane : push forward to go down -> short ball, pull backward to go up -> longer ball

3- your head also works like this : to look down, you have to move your head forward, and to look up, you have to move it backward..!

4- You can also imagine your racket head : to do a shorter ball, you'll have to cover the ball a little bit more, and thus your racket should be a bit more up ; and to put topspin in the ball, you have to put your racket head very down during the strike so it'll have a great upward movement when you hit it
