Any tips against very quick players?

Postby antimouse » 16 Apr 2015, 20:47

Hello people,

I'm having a hard time trying to defeat players with 100% speed like Robredo and Hewitt. What should I do? What are the keys to defeating players like that? They get to the ball too quickly, so they are always counterattacking (especially Hewitt, cause he is of Counter type). Against almost any other player I can offer resistance (I almost took a set from Nadal last encounter), but these players always destroy me. I never win more than 2 games in a set.

Hello,

you didn't say the difficulty level you play with. At Pro-10 and easier, you can wait for a shorter ball before to do acceleration, or use slice & rush the net.

Hey Manu, thanks for the answer.

I'm playing on Pro-10 level. The problem is that they only return a short ball when I'm able to get them off-balance. To do this, I need to go for the lines. But, as they are really quick, they very often get to the ball well enough to counter-attack, and they LOVE to counter-attack with a short angled acceleration, which is almost impossible to reach. I mean, I have 90% of speed right now, but I made some tests in Training Mode with 100% speed and it didn't help that much.
As for the net rush, I don't use it that much because I suck at the net. But I'm beginning to think I'll have to improve on that lol.

Unfortunately I didn't play enough TE since a while to provide better advices... Maybe some other people playing at Pro-10 would have advices... :)

And now??
Someone have tips to these players?
I play in Pro-10 and I can win Federer and Djokovic very easy, but is almost impossible I have a chance with Ferrer or Bautista-Agut. Against Nadal, I can't even win a game, so, when I match Nadal, I decrease the difficult to no lose for 6/0 6/0.
I tried to do like Manutoo said, but when I get them off-balance, they use a slice in the end line!! So, all always returns to begin until I mistake.
It's sound so strange to me, I can win Djokovic, the number 1, but I can't win Martin Klizan, only the 46, in my game!!!
Best 2015 results:

bigu30,
against heavy topspiners, you have to find the zone where you'll hit the ball around your shoulder height ; this will give a big speed bonus to your accelerations, especially on forehand, which should greatly help you to turn the balance in your favor, or even do direct winners.
