CPU has too many winners and constant net play

Postby Hycinthus » 04 Apr 2015, 01:53

Hi, new poster here, and first of all, really love the game!

However, I want to confirm something. If it's how it's intended, then it's fine.

I play on professional 10 (World tour, offline, with SAM's patch), and I've been losing first/second round matches to people that are ranked really low. And I noticed the stats, they have soo many winners and soo many net play and net winners. I lost first/second round Indian wells, Rome, Madrid, Cincinnati, and the last one, Beijing. (I did well in Grand Slams, maybe because I'm a slow starter, and matches often go 4 to 5 sets).

But here is example of my lost Beijing second round match.

[42] Tommy Haas def. [3] Myself with score 6-7, 6-1, 6-2

My winners/UE: 38/ 36
Tommy Haas' winners/UE: 58/27
Tommy Haas' net winners: 32

The reason I bring this up, is that this happens very common. Almost ALL the players that I play, even though they are power baseliners, they suddenly become crazy super net players when they are down 30-0 against me. Then suddenly they reel in 4 consecutive points by coming to the net.

In a 5-set matches in grand slam, some players even have 93 net winners against me. I should've written down the names of the players, but to my knowledge, throughout the play they are usually power baseliner play-style, but become net players when they are losing.

Is this intended? Also, how come soo many winners to UE ? 58 to 27 is too much I believe and not too realistic. Again, I play on professional 10. Thanks for your response, and I just want to clarify.

Hello,

CPU will go to the net more often if it notices you can't pass it well. Also, it'll go to the net more easily when you do short balls. So if at 30/0, you relax, lose focus and then position yourself less well leading to shorter ball, the CPU will come to the net more.

Net winners are included in the total winners, that's why the CPU got plenty.

Thank you for your quick response, I guess I will work harder not to lose focus and not to return short balls.

However, it's a bit tricky, but how can I more successfully overcome players who came to the net? I always lose the point once he's on the net. Every lob I do gets smashed (occasionally it's successful, but it's usually always caught and smashed by the CPU). I just hate seeing 93 net winners by CPU.

I've had this complaint before as well. As far as winners count goes, the computer, and yourself, will often have an unrealistically high number because in this game there is no stretching to reach a shot. How often in real tennis do you see players stretching and sliding to return a shot and they just barely get a racquet on it? In this game those shots are winners even though the slightest outstretched racquet would hit the ball. Nearly half the "winners" in this game would not be if there was some sort of defensive slide or stretch.

The UE count is always too high because every single shot that is not returned in the court is counted as an UE, this includes shots that you're obviously defending on, such as a missed pass off a good approach or a missed return off a big serve. These would not be considered UE in a real tennis match. On the other hand, the computer rarely fails to get a ball in play unless it's an outright winner by you so their UE count can be way too low.

Finally, the computer attacks the net WAY, WAY too often. I hate it. And what's worse, their approach shots are often laughably terrible. My advice would be to slice more often when the computer approaches the net, then go for a short acceleration passing shot on the next volley. I really wish the computer would attack the net less, especially the Power Baseliner and Counter play styles.

Hycinthus,
best moment to pass the CPU is when he's rushing to the net, usually at that point if you take the ball early enough you have a lot of room to pass him, using the acceleration down the line or short acceleration crossed, or even the short strike crossed. After that, use the short strike to put the CPU in difficulty if you don't have an opening anymore, to get a chance for an easier ball, on which you might have to enter the court a bit to make the best of it.

Bata,
a quick note : there's no "UE" stats in TE2013, only "Errors", for the reasons you exposed...

By the way, all cpu players are just too perfect at net

You can see pure clay players (as spanish) running several tens of time to the net in a match with perfect volley 0% error, 100% winning pt at net ! Just so crazy and unrealistic
