Seeing and returning wide serves

Postby CC » 24 Apr 2009, 04:22

My resolution is set to 1024 x 768, and the game displays in a window that is as wide as possible but about an inch (real inch) from the top and bottom limits of the vertical aspect. I find that this gives me that widest view of the court. Even with this, there is a considerable portion of my end of the court that I can't see, and often this is where players serve to. The arrow that appears helps some, but I am basically returning the ball blindly, guessing how far over to run. I often miss. It is evident from watching replays that I often stop short of the ball (rather than having just been too slow to react). Is there a solution to this issue?

Maybe manutoo should add some kind of a little pop up window that shows the player and ball completely when they are otherwise out of view, and it would dissapear when the player is back in normal view...lol maybe it would be too confusing, but people might get used to something like this...? Just a random suggestion.

I guess it's something that'll need the 3D courts to be completely ok... :unsure:

I use 1680x1050 widescreen and it's the same. I just got used to learning how to handle wide serves over time, but it's still irritating. There's 2 ways I know of to use a wider angle when returning.

1) Play on the top side of the screen when returning.
2) Copy something like this into your tennis.ini:

[Camera]
Angle = -2.37305
Custom = 1
CustomFocal = 2.77699
Dist = 3088
Height = 302

That's used for the wonderful custom courts that solarisaint creates, but they also work for regular courts. It's a lower angle that I find better to play from, but it also makes the court look silly. You can tinker with the distance and height to get it how you want.

Even when using Solarisaint's custom courts I'm usually out of the picture when returning wide serves...since I generally do OK with it, it's just something that I've had to adjust to... 8-)

I agree with Leena that it can be a little bit irritating (sometimes I can just barely see enough of my player's racquet after the swing to tell if my return was hit with a forehand or backhand)...most of the time I have no clue.. but I guess as long as I get the return into play it doesn't really matter... :roll:

When playing against the CPU at the highest levels 90% of the serves are hit either "out wide" or down the center "T", almost none "into the body" or the middle of the service box, so I usually have to "cheat" and run like hell with my player to cover the wide serves... :P

Hi
Im almost finished with new wimbledon, in regards to the angles. The last wimbledon video i put up, i had no problem with that angle other than the lawn being to bright. Does anybody care for that angle, like the one i have in the last wimbledon video. i love being on the court.
Also when you look at those youtube video's, put your zoom at 150%, that what i see when im playing.
