Wanna see the perfection? Ok, take a look here![Suggestions]

Postby swissmade » 25 Feb 2009, 22:38

Well, i tried the game for a couple of days, and i post some first suggestions, from a real tennis player that search the best realism possible.

1-Delete the "fault" call when the ball hit the net, on serve and during points, sound become annoying.
2-Insert the "beep" sound instead of a fault call for long or wide serves, sometimes, for example one "beep" to call a serve out every five or ten serves out.
3-Insert the "shouts" for some players that used it or add an options for add it to the human player. I mean the shout that a lot of players did when they hit the ball (like Nadal).
4-Net "play by play", especially in doubles, is horrible. I saw players that hit the ball fifteen straight times standing at one meter from the net and sliding left and right on the court, that's ridicolous, the game need a big improvement to make short net rallies, maximum three or four shots to hit a winner, and one or two most of the times.
5-Reduce a bit the ball spin from inside to outside the court, it's too easy to do an outside service ace.
6-Smash shot MUST be easier, all players when they used it, 90% times hit a winner, so, it must be more powerful with a low value too. Especially when the player try to smash a bad lob or a poor opponent's shot, and, when the character hit it running back, leave it a bit more difficult it's okay.
7-Switch the "show error" parameter to "0" value by default.
8-The human player must decide to make a gesture, pushing a button. Maybe just one button, if the player push it after a point won, the character will exult, if he lost a point, he will be disappointed.
9-Players ranked lower than 700, it seem that they don't play tournament any more.
10-Possibility for the player to receive a call to be a sparring partner of a player ranked a lot better and gain some experience point, not so much points, just like a match played or something less, but this thing will add variety to the world tour. Would be nice for young players.

That's all, (for now!).
This is an analysis to make the game to the best simulation level. Take a look, it's all true and, a good half, really necessary.

All to make Tennis Elbow "the game", and not just a game.

Regards

Just some thoughts their mate,

1- Yes good point.
2- Not really needed as I reckon that they hardly ever have the beep now for serves in major tournaments.
3- Grunts would be a good feature.
4- I agree but i reckon it would be hard to do in the short term.
6- I reckon the smash is not too bad but maybe bit more velocity would make it a better shot.
8- Already in the game.

Hello,

4- on what difficulty level did u notice that ? On Pro-10 level (which is the one designed to be the most realistic), most of net fights end pretty quickly...

5- idem, what difficulty ?

6- with a bit of practice, and a decent smash skill percentage, the smash becomes really very easy ; personally I miss it only when I get nervous & really mess up the timing

8- dl the latest version ;)

9- they play in doubles ; also tournaments that didn't earn point aren't counted in the "tournament count"

other points noted...

I used Pro level, with 4 like sub-value, i think it's not exactly a poor level, but especially on doubles, with three or four players at the net, situation is embarassing.

i suggest anyway a 5-10% more power from the beginning.

Then okay about point 8 ( but...how to do that? ) and 9.

Oh i forgot my last point..the single tournament mode. A fast way to play major tournaments with a real player just choosing a character. I suggest to insert:
-the slams, instead of masters 1000 that couldn't be so necessaries
-the master cup, betetr with the possibility to choose all the players
-the team cups (like Davis), complete, or just with main nations

Too immediate, too funny.

See you

1- Yes, too make it way more realistic
2- I had this idea, some months ago but I didn't remind to put it here :bounce:
3- I ask it several times, hope it will be in the game
6- it's easy u simply need to have a good skill %

I noticed another thing. I think that the game need two parameters in addition, i mean RETURN and MENTAL.

1- I also insist anout removing SMASH paramater. This shots was difficult until twentyfive years ago, when tennis was played with wood rackets and games was a life slowers than now. The smash is a 95% winner shot, when you have twelve years too, that's absurd, think about it.

2- About return, well, a lot of players, especially fast courts players, have a very good return, but from the baseline is another thing, too different, it's another world. If you played tennis, like i imagine, you must know it 8-)

3- Mental parameter is obvious what the player react on really tough moments, break point, tie break, set point etc. It is probably one of the main differences from a good player and a great player, a good player play well, and maybe great when he's 30-0/40-0 or if he's ahead in the set. Great players can reach superb level of play mainly in this moments.

I know i can be annoying, but i challenge you to find anyone more suggestive than me...

1- look the difference between Sampras & Agassi's smashes

2- already in game, as many other hidden skills

3- already in the hidden skills, but just used a lil bit, will be used more in the future...

Okay i shut up, but not about smash, at least it lack of power. A single tournament mode like i wrote some messages up, need a big work on game code? I think main things are done, it should be a programming trouble only.

Manu, a doubt:
What do you mean with "hidden skills"?
Is there any code to view these skills or are you mentioning skills that we can't change the %?

they aren't on the character sheet but they are on the tennis.ini on the game folder
Tour Mod.

Tour issues by PM or Skype.
If you don't add me nor send me a PM, you might see your chances reduced. Inform me about anything that might have went on with your matches BEFORE deadlines, otherwise, decisions won't be changed.

swissmade, everything is programming trouble... ;)
And yup, it'll need too long time to do it, while I have so many other important things to add to the game 1st.

gump83, hidden skills are used only by the CPU players...

Postby R.Gasquet » 04 Mar 2009, 00:03

Since my post about serve seems to have been deleted ill post it again here

My beef is with the kicking serve to the single handed backhand of some of the midgets you see running around. A kicking serve is supposed to get up high on the single handed backhands, the hitting zone of a single hander being waist height. Eg, djokovics 2nd serve to federer. The ball gets up high on federer and the hitting zone of a single hander being waist height takes away the ability to strike with the maximum power. Now, if a kicking serve gets up on a 185 cm man, there is not a hope in hell that a 155 woman will be able to get it back. certainly not with...an 93 mph shot!!!

Also about the how the speed of serving is affected by height and gender. It isnt, so that needs vamped

R.Gasquet, if the game is realistic according to gender & height, then everybody will take a 1m85 tall male player...

In World Tour, the women are quite noticeably less powerful... But same, the height has low influence on the serve efficiency, else, everybody should pick the same ideal height... (for memory, Sampras, Federer, Nadal, Courrier are all 1m85).

For the kick serve, I had a look and actually, there's no enough spin in it, so it doesn't bounce very high, I'll tune it for the next update...

I also noticed that when cpu players go to the net, the human player can hit passing shots winners just with wide or cross shots. The cpu seem to take quite easily almost all of the passing shots straight the line, on serve and volley and on rallies too. Also, hit cross shots winners is not easy, but maybe make it a bit harder, yes. I think that the net coverage should be a bit, and just a bit, more balanced.
