The Incredible Challenge !

General discussions about the 3rd edition of Tennis Elbow

The Incredible Challenge !

Postby manutoo » 27 Sep 2014, 14:11

Hello,

in the Forum, people regularly give their level at TE by telling they can beat the CPU Incredible-X.
The issue with that is that it's not a standardized measure as the CPU level can vary vastly depending on a lot of other parameters.

So I propose you a contest to show all your skills against the CPU and compare it to the other players.

Here your opponent :
TE2013_G.Ladal.jpg
TE2013_G.Ladal.jpg (185.92 KiB) Viewed 55111 times

You can either set it up manually like this, or download and copy this file in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Tennis Elbow 2013\Profiles\Default" (or your Profile folder if you created one), and then head up to the Player 2's Character Sheet and load the 36th Slot "Gael Ladal" =>
p_Z.Ini
(4.49 KiB) Downloaded 59 times

Select the SubLevel you want (from 1 to 10).

Here the settings :
- unmodded TE2013 v1.0e Build 111
- Elite controls
- Average AutoPos (you can set it to Slow if you like bigger challenge ;) )
- Preview : All + Danger Zone (or less, if you don't like it)
- You distribute your points like for the Online "Realistic Mode" ( explanations are here => https://www.managames.com/tennis/doc/Ten ... SkillModes )
- In "Misc Options", set "Offline Skills" to "Realistic Mode"
- In "Options", set Clay court & 1-set match
- In "Recordings" menu, set "Recording" to "Real-time" or "Buffered"
- Start the match
- Press F6 and check the CRC of the CPU is one of these : (EDIT 2020: the CRC calculation has changed, so these CRCs aren't correct anymore)
SubLevel 1 -> 1395560
SubLevel 2 -> 1395544
SubLevel 3 -> 1395528
SubLevel 4 -> 1395512
SubLevel 5 -> 1395520
SubLevel 6 -> 1395480
SubLevel 7 -> 1395464
SubLevel 8 -> 1395448
SubLevel 9 -> 1395432
SubLevel 10 -> 1395440
- Start to play and good luck ! :)

Once you'll have won a match :
- post the recorded .dmo (in "Recordings" menu, click on top left icon to open the .dmo folder)
- tell us your Player Style and his Topspin skill %
- post the match stats from the MatchLog ( = bottom left icon in the "Misc Options" menu)
- tell us how many matches you did before to beat him at that SubLevel (or how often you could beat that level ; for example "I can beat Incredible-1 100% of the times" or "I can beat Incredible-2 50% of the times")
- describe in a couple of sentences how you beat him

Extra notes :
- if you can't beat the Incredible-1 CPU, then you can either participate by beating a lower CPU level (for example Master-5, and in that case don't worry about the CRC, they won't match), or by posting your best losing score against the Incredible-1
- avoid to do use exploit to beat the CPU, or if you do, clearly state it in your match report
- if the Challenge is a bit popular, we'll do another one with another Player Style on another surface in a few months
- do not hijack this topic ; it's only for reports and possibly short comments on reported matches, but not for big discussions about the gameplay

Reported Exploits :
Do not use the following exploits, they have already been reported and your result won't count if you use them :
- rushing the net after a safe strike

Ok, I'll start ! :blackeye:

- I was playing with a Power Baseliner and 0% Topspin
Code: Select all
29 / 41 = 71%   1st Serve   17 / 33 = 52%        11 / 25 = 44%   Short Rallies Won (< 5)   14 / 25 = 56%
0   Aces   0        7 / 16 = 44%   Medium Rallies Won (5-8)   9 / 16 = 56%
0   Double Faults   0        17 / 27 = 63%   Long Rallies Won (> 8)   10 / 27 = 37%
220 Km/h   Fastest Serve   220 Km/h           Average Rally Length: 7.6
201 Km/h   Avr 1st Serve Speed   203 Km/h        0   Set Points Saved   0
144 Km/h   Avr 2nd Serve Speed   175 Km/h        0   Match Points Saved   1
17   Winners   11        17 / 29 = 59%   Points won on 1st Serve   13 / 17 = 76%
24   Errors   22        7 / 12 = 58%   Points won on 2nd Serve   5 / 16 = 31%
6 / 9 = 67%   Net Approaches   2 / 2 = 100%        15 / 33 = 45%   Return Points Won   17 / 41 = 41%
2 / 3 = 67%   Break Point Conversions   1 / 4 = 25%        0   Return Winners   0
39   Total Points Won   35        2 / 2 = 100%   Breaks / Games With Break Point   1 / 2 = 50%

- I beat the Incredible-1 on my 15th attempt, just after I had set ForceSunInBack to 1 in Tennis.ini (else I was losing focus every 2 games :sweat: ) ; I think I couldn't beat him much more than every 10 attempts, though
- I beat him by attacking as much as possible, really playing the perks of the Power Baseliner with 0% Topspin

Finally, You give me chance to show You game bugs wich some players using on this tour.
I already said somewhere that clay is the most unbalanced and unrealistic surface because net attacking is overused.
I played with volleyer 60% spin. Here, seems like Your guy can't do nothing against net attacks.
Also, if You want, I will play dropshots and serve-volley gameplay to see how much is your defender strong :shock:.
On this way I can beat this guy on Incredible 10 level. Have a fun. :10: :fear:

Interested in taking part. I don't fully understand what the stat distribution for "Realistic" is. Is this allowed? (Hopefully image link works)

Maryanucci,
- you're playing with Aiming preview on, it is not allowed
- you're playing with Fast AutoPos, it is not allowed
- you're playing with a strange mix between Elite ball difficulty and Arcade aiming precision, I don't know how you managed to do that, but it means you play with much easier controls than the rules of this topic ; try to set your controls to Simulation then back to Elite to fix that (be sure your game is unmodded)
- you beat the Incredible-1, not 10
- anyway, you clearly show an exploit : the CPU usual response against the safe strike while you're rushing the net is way too weak ; I'll try to fix that for next update ; so do not use that exploit anymore if you want to participate in the Challenge again :yes:
Note: overall, it almost looks like you tried to cheat... :sad3:

clown,
yes, it's a correct setting. You might want to put your speed on 100% though, it's probably the most important skill.

Ok, I see what's settings are alowed. Just want to show You what is the biggest problem on clay.
And yes, I do that with sublevel 1, ussualy practice with 7.
Note: overall, it almost looks like you tried to cheat...

Just showing what some guys do on tour.

I like Your chalenge, and I will post my dmo when beat sublevel 10 with correct settings (If I have time). :headbang:

1st attempt: 6-4 for CPU despite i was leading and had several bp (Incredible-1)

So the match it's a resume of:
- tons of unstandable "green" errors
- tons of ultra deep balls from CPU => error

i don't understand why the cpu return is often so deep (near the baseline) and why his ultra lifted balls are near the baseline too

Gael Ladal (Incroyable-1) bat. testO : 6/4 - Terre Battue - 0:18'17 (0:39'37) - 2014-09-28 16:34

16   Fautes   16       10 / 15 = 67%   Points gagnés sur 2nd service   2 / 6 = 33%

2nd attempt with a high stop spin : cpu Wins 6-3

22 errors in 1 set with half are green errors ! lol it's probably because i didn't take my watch to measure the time of preparation !

Re: The Incredible Challenge !

Postby Heinrich von Westphalen » 28 Sep 2014, 17:53

I tried your Gael and due to the fact that I didn't played vs. CPU since a long time I choose Sub 1 at first. A single winner by him wasn't that good, on the other side I did just one UE. So result was expected, but I'll try to play vs. higher level next week ... was the first attempt, I played w/ defender with a bit topspin. I did what defenders usually do, without any net exploitations.

Kind regards,
Heinrich von Westphalen.

Heinrich von Westphalen,
that's some nice stuff there !
But it looks like the IC-1 didn't put you out of your comfort zone even 1 time, so maybe you should have started with IC-2 or 3 (or 4 ;) ).
Here the stats of your match, but I got 3 or 4 corrupted points so they're probably not totally accurate :
Code: Select all
10 / 14 = 71%   1st Serve   8 / 12 = 67%        5 / 6 = 83%   Short Rallies Won (< 5)   1 / 6 = 17%
0   Aces   1        1 / 1 = 100%   Medium Rallies Won (5-8)   0 / 1 = 0%
0   Double Faults   0        15 / 16 = 94%   Long Rallies Won (> 8)   1 / 16 = 6%
199 Km/h   Fastest Serve   220 Km/h           Average Rally Length: 16.7
173 Km/h   Avr 1st Serve Speed   208 Km/h        0   Set Points Saved   0
153 Km/h   Avr 2nd Serve Speed   175 Km/h        0   Match Points Saved   0
5   Winners   6        8 / 10 = 80%   Points won on 1st Serve   0 / 8 = 0%
0   Errors   15        4 / 4 = 100%   Points won on 2nd Serve   0 / 4 = 0%
1 / 1 = 100%   Net Approaches   0 / 2 = 0%        12 / 12 = 100%   Return Points Won   2 / 14 = 14%
3 / 3 = 100%   Break Point Conversions   0 / 0 = 0%        0   Return Winners   1
24   Total Points Won   2        3 / 3 = 100%   Breaks / Games With Break Point   0 / 0 = 0%

Sorry i forgot:

- Full Volleyer, 19% top spin (for the victory)
- aggressive style to run at net asap. Try to avoid long rallies (i lose each time if it's too long)

Fair/ fun idea, this thing. Well at least even if it's not a gameplay discussion oriented thread, i guess all the .dmo's may help to enlight some things for you Manutoo, so overall, can be fun and positive.

I'll participate a bit. Not used much to vanilla/realistic settings, so basically i didn't counted much the first tries, as i didn't finished the sets, i was mostly dealing with different stats schemes to find what would suit me best, so i played some 3 games until i felt cunmfortable enough.

I used the specified setup + No Previews.

IC1
****

I felt like i could beat him playing aggressive tennis but that didn't felt much rewarding (besides more fun), cause generating too much faults and free points for my opponent, so i choosed the pushing/defensive way wich was much more effective (and boring) and then played some full sets, i defeated him right away playing this way, but didn't got the 6-0 at the first try. 4th or 5th try i think. I used a Powerbaseliner for it, So besides pushing i still had the possibility sometimes to hit a decent accel, but the intent was as well to show that one can push efficiently with any type of character style :wink:

IC4
***

Well, like Heinrich said, more difficult to defend there, CPU makes less faults and attacks more consistently and better. I changed my setup for some sort of counter/pusher with 50 spin, not loads of power (85), but keeping good maniability with a good consistency and precision to power delta, and max speed this time, for a more cumfortable pushing, good stamina management and the possibility to still hit decent counters with the BH, pretty effective especially in second part of the set when Ladal starts to get more tired, to push him to the fault from time to time. He saved a game thanks to some good serves and me a bit off focus.

Another useful perk in both setups was the 100% drop stat, cause when you're a better pusher than Ladal, he'll often choose to drop you from time to time, so it's nice being able to counter drop there, especially when having poor net stats.

IC6
***

Well, starting some sets with my previous counter setting i felt like it would be very difficult, also IC6 has so much reach i'm sure i wouldn't be able to hit thru consistently with any agressive build, at least without doing a shitload of faults trying, or getting screwed by weird defense shots, so i told myself, let's use the perfect pusher build, something like Lael Gadal or so. A bit more spin, and a one handed BH for more reach and additonnal spin, and .. let's drain him to death with the allmighty pushy moonball winning strategy.
