how to beat the players with high % of top spin?

Postby vaidisova » 07 Feb 2009, 07:40

everytime i play against them, i can't help losing to them. no matter how hard i hit the ball they send it back to me with high bouncing and i don't know what to do but hitting UEs after UEs. it's so annoying.

which part i need to work on to beat these players?

Hi
Try hitting more "slice". I'm better with the backhand slice than the forehand. I guess I don't practice the slice forehand as much. (in real life either 8-) ) Sometimes the slice will cause the opponent to give you a flatter return..(at least with a LITTLE less topspin). Then maybe your accelerations will be more effective since in TE09 it's so vital to center the ball in your raquet's sweetspot. You probably make unforced errors because it's almost impossible to center the ball and strike hard when it's bouncing so high all over the place, BUT, if you can cause them to bring it down a little you may be more effective. Also, if you have decent volley/smashing skills, and you get that flatter ball to hit, crunch it and try to win the point that way. Above all, with those types of players you have to be patient enough to stay in the point 'til you can get the right set-up

vaidisova, as btaylor pointed out, the most important is to be patient. Also, you should try to read the ball trajectories as best as possible, so when the ball is a bit more short and/or with less topspin u could try to position your player closer of the baseline to raise your chances to hit a winning acceleration, or at least to do one that will force your opponent to hit a weaker shot.
