POLAND,
no, for 2 reasons :
- Unity, the engine I'm going to use, already dropped Windows XP support a few months ago
- I'm going to use the latest Unity renderer which requires DirectX 11, which is only supported by Windows 7 and newer Windows (ie: 8, 8.1 & 10)

Manu, about modding...
Will TE4 still use that scripting language for menus and scoreboards?
I was thinking about creating a tool to facilitate scoreboard production. If it TE4 changes too much, it would be best for me to wait :)

Thanks!

antimouse,
I will still use the same menu script for TE4, and its format won't change a lot now, and it'll be backward compatible (with 1 exception, which is that the menus are wide by default, so you have to specify in each menu if you want it to be fullscreen instead of widescreen).

The only noticeable addition will be a formula parser, so it'll be possible to write stuff like this :
Code: Select all
def x "y + 5 * delta + border * 0.5"

and even more complicated stuff. Currently, if you want to do this, it takes a couple of lines.

Hello Manu,
I have an idea for you. I was thinking about sliders and here's my idea for design....what's your opinion about this?

PS:...of course, my common question: Do you have any new screenshots? :D
....thank you for answer :)

manutoo,
The sliders are for menu design...and these sliders can influence the ball speed, player speed, etc. in gameplay (+ my idea about influencing frequency of trick shots, umpire mistakes...)
- example 1: I set the ball speed and player speed at maximum and the gameplay will be totaly crazy (super-fast balls, super fast players)
- example 2: when I'm playing NHL, I set the sliders almost at minimum...because then the game looks much more realistic
...players could just set their ideal game (they could took it to the super-fast arcade...or they can turn it realistic)
...if you don't understand, check this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnUx8lR8h4A

PS: the court props looks great...thumbs up!

noname1988,
Yes, the sliders are from FIFA 18 (and are in many EA games - NHL, NBA... - I use it almost everytime in these games) - it is just for inspiration that this feature could also be in Tennis Elbow 4

...sorry for my English, I hope you understand :D

Sali_O296,
ok, I see ; on one hand, I really don't like this kind of gameplay sliders : it really looks like the devs are saying "We don't know how to make our game plays well, so we give you tons of slider so hopefully you'll figure something out by yourself"... ':D

On another hand, there are already tons of settings in Tennis.ini which allows similar control, so if I want to offer this tuning on consoles, I'll have to put them in the menus, as accessing the Tennis.ini directly won't be possible.

But on PC, I might not, at least not for now ; personally, I really prefer to offer a few determined settings, like Arcade/Simulation/Elite controls, or Slow/Medium/Fast AutoPos ; because as we say "too much choice is no choice at all" (eg: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Paradox_of_Choice ). On in another word : if there are too many sliders, with too many values for each, the average user will have no idea what is a good setting to enjoy the game, and will likely fuck up stuff ; if the default settings don't fit him, offering a couple of other choices is good, but more isn't.

Hi Manutoo!

Are you considering to increase the height range of the characters? I'm asking because someone is really short or tall they should be able to make their character like that. For example, 145cm to 200cm for female and 160- 215 for male. Just curious to see what you have to say about this

lobo artico,
in TEM2, it's already changed to 155-195cm & 170-215cm ; if I recall correctly, all pro players in real life in the top 100 are within this range.

Not quite in the top 100, but Hiroki Moriya is 5'6", which is 168cm. Olivier Rochus was no.24 at a stage and the same height (Wikipedia says he was as small as 5'5"/165cm).

Edit: Yuta Shimizu is 5'4"/163cm (Top 400).

TEFAN,
For the release date, read the 1st post of this topic.
For the online mode, it should become operational sometime around July 2019, but it's really not sure for the moment, mainly because the network part of the Unity engine is currently rebuilt and I'm not sure what the result will be and when it'll be fully done.
