Good Reputation to prevent high penalty?

Postby campa100anni » 19 Aug 2014, 20:35

The "Reputation" system is pretty cool but, however, it's pretty useless. A lot of time I got bad reputation just for winning a match (especially when my opponent is frustrated because he was up a break or match-point up). What about giving some highest utility to this parameter by using it to prevent high penalty in case of quitting a started match? Sometimes my pc crashes (I have a quite old PC) in the middle of a match (not too often but i'd still say one time out of fifteen/twenty) or sometimes (even less often) something turns up and I have to leave the game straight away because I had some unexpected event to deal with. In those case is pretty bad to lose 25-30 ELO all at once, knowing that you didn't leave the game because you want to but only because some external motivation forced you to do so. What about using the reputetion to calculate the amount percentage of ELO a player should lose if he quits a game that's not finished yet? Good reputation players would lose less ELO than a Bad Reputetion player. In this way all the "fair" player would actually have a payback for their good attitude and, at the same way, all the cheaters or the "bad attitude" players will have one more reason to try to turn them into fair ones.

Nice idea, but some people would re-boot the computer to avoid this penalties.
Current system is good, you can choose your opponent and kind of predict if he is going to give you a good or a bad reputation after the match.
In this case, i think it's better to update your PC instead of the whole game... sorry  .

Cheers.

campa100anni,
you're supposed to tell your opponent if you have to leave in the middle of the match and ask him to cancel your ELO penalty (and wait for him to do so before to disconnect).
Also, getting an ELO penalty in 5 or 10% of your matches has a very low incidence on your ELO (as the lower your ELO, the most points your gain or the less points you lose when you play a match).
So don't worry too much about it ; anyway, there's no ranking based ELO, it's just there to help you find opponent of your level.
