Ranking and draw of World Tour

Postby CC » 21 Dec 2008, 16:47

I understand that in real tennis, there is a system whereby players are ranked (something like 1 - 5), and players are matched in draws somewhat (so that a 5.0 player doesn't play a 1.0 player, etc.). In the World Tour, I start with a player with low skills, but I don't know what ranking that is. When I play matches, I have the ability to change the level of the CPU player (from Club on up). I did not notice this at first.

When I start a World Tour, is the game ranking me and setting the level of my opponent as it is in real tennis? When I started, the opponents were at Club level, which I didn't notice at first. I just realized that they were too easy to beat. If I were to not change their level, would the game adjust this for me as I improved my skills? What I am asking is, should I be adjusting the level of the CPU player for a realistic matching based on my abilities, or will the game do this for me? Once, I set the level of the CPU player too high, and I did not make it past the qualifier. However, my own skills were limited by the amount of experience that I had at the time, and I couldn't change this, although I had been able to easily give the CPU player a higher level.

Hello,

the game will never change by itself the global difficulty level (except in case of bug ;) ) ; normally, you should be able to set the difficulty only when starting a new game, but as many people requested to change it without having to restart their career, I added this possibility.
So if the game becomes too easy (or too hard), you can change it whenever it suits u... :)

I have very no idea why u titled the topic "Ranking and draw of World Tour", though... :?
Maybe you didn't notice that ur World Tour ranking is shown within ur character sheet (just left of your country flag), and that u can also consult all players' ranking within : Draw Sheets, Rankings & Scores -> Rankings Board ..?

Sorry. My title may not be right, or maybe my explanation isn't right. I am asking about how the game rates me (I said ranks me before, but that is probably not the correct term) and uses this to create the draw. In other words, does the game match me with other players of my same level (not rank in the sense of where I am in the race)? So, I see now. Rank means something else. I should have said skill level instead of rank.

In real tennis, if I were to enter a tournament, I think that I would be matched with other players of my same skill level. So, I wouldn't be playing someone like Federer, as I am not quite as his level :) . In World Tour, does it kindof work this way also, so that I am matched with players close to my skill level? This is why I was also asking about the Club / Junior / Pro, etc. setting. If the game was matching this for me, then I would not want to change it myself. Having read your reply, though, it sounds like I have to change this in order to have the challenge that I want. Maybe the game, though, is selecting my opponent based on my skill level and his? So, as I advance in the game, I hope to play those with higher skills.

The game doesn't care about your skills when u enter a tournament... ;)
It's like in real life, there are different level of tournaments, so it's up to u to choose a tournament fit for your own level.
Usually, u'll want to enter a tournament where u won't have to do qualies (except for the major ones : Grand Slam & Master Series). And at 1st, you have no choice but to do qualies before you can make your 1st ranking points and go up in the rankings.

The higher prizes in a tournament, the higher ranked players you'll find in it.
Each week, the tournaments are ordered from the most important one to the least important one. And the colors show u the type of tournament.

Look the draws of all tournaments during a couple of weeks to figure out how it's working...
