CC...There have been many professional two-handed backhand players that have used the one-handed slice backhand either for tactical purposes (to break up the opponent's rythym or draw him into the net) or for defense when they can't get set up for their normal shot. Among them: Nadal, Roddick, David Ferrer, Juan Carlos Ferrero, David Nalbandian, Mats Wilander, among others. So, as you can see, it's quite normal, moreso among the men, although Serena, Venus and Svetlana Kusnetsova have been known to use it as well :wink:

Thanks! It's unfortunate that my question reveals so much of my ignorance of tennis :oops: . I think that Santoro even uses a two handed forehand slice. Well, now I know. :)

No problem CC...If you don't know, ask. :wink: That's how we learn! I read elsewhere that you said that you were relatively new to tennis and while I too think that you can learn a great deal about real tennis from TE09, I caution you to beware that tennis against the CPU at the higher levels (master & incredible) is not all that realistic, nor intended to be so. From what I understand, it seems to be intended mainly to satisfy the cravings of the more hardcore gamers out there that love the thrill of tennis at warp speeds. As I've stated more than a few times, no HUMAN player can cover the court from sideline-to-sideline-to sideline-to-sideline running down accelerated volleys and groundstrokes...not even the great NADAL!! A lot of the solid volleys/groundies that you hit should and would be real winners in real tennis and as you progress in real tennis and hopefully learn to appreciate the art of volleying, you will find that it's really a HELL of a lot easier to do in real tennis than in TE (assuming the all court/serve & volley style of tennis appeals to you) As you can maybe tell, I think volleying has become a lost art at most levels, even in pro tennis over the years, but seems to be making a comeback. Still, it can be a great challenge to compete with the CPU at the highest levels simply for the fun of it! :wink: When I play real tennis I can hit the ball as hard as is necessary when I get my set-ups but have outgrown the need to BASH the ball back and forth ad nauseum, and feel that way in TE also.

I like the Incredible level. In fact, I wish there was a level higher than Incredible with even more oomph on shots by the CPU. Comparing to the pros on TV, I think some shots in Tennis Elbow are in fact a bit slower, i.e. slice and short strike (non-accelerated version). I am encouraged to hear that Manu may increase the kmh of slice. But as for CPU footspeed: I keep it at around 75-80%, and find this pretty realistic. But I like the option of having him be as fast as possible. It's good to have a lot of options that one is able to tune to their liking.
But yea, even a level higher than Incredible would be pretty neat to have; tho I am happy with the game as it is. I swear, with every update, it seems to get better and better. Sometimes when I watch replay of my points, I can feel as if it is the real thing. Ball trajectory is extraordinary. And again, am looking forward to the added kmh of the slice, which will make it even better. And it's great to have so many settings to choose from...a well done game.

I rest my case :roll: Maybe super-duper-extra-terresestrial accelerations shot out of a gun with no lobs and no volleys would suffice ( I'm probably gonna get in trouble from a couple-a-folks from this one) 8-) When I watch pro and college level men's tennis, most of them tend to rally with more spin (topspin) until they get a set-up, rather than BLASTING a lot of low-percentage flat groundstrokes constantly from sideline-to-sideline (the women, however, tend to be another story) :wink: I do agree, though, that it's cool in TE to have the option to set your player and the CPU player's speed/power/level to whatever gets you off...variety IS the spice of life... vivre la difference! 8-) Also, I wouldn't mind having a little more bite on the slice either :) p.s Brad1981...maybe if the CPU level wasn't set SO fast maybe you would feel like you could practice coming to the net more effectively against the CPU without using mtrun, thereby gaining more confidence to come to the net when playing online at normal speed...

This may be a silly question, as maybe the game is correct in this, but here is the question. Why is it that when I, playing left-handed, serve to the AD court (say first serve of a game) and use the slice (arrow up), I can't serve any farther to the left of the "T" than maybe a third of the width of the service rectangle? Why can't I serve all of the way over to the outside line with the slice serve to the AD court? When I serve to the other side, I can easily serve all of the way over to the outside line.
(sorry if my tennis terminology is all wrong)

@btaylor :
>> is it possible to use MTRUN in on-line games?

No.

@CC :
>> what is the graphic that symbolizes the Arcade mode?

It's a mitten.
In French, when someone is clumsy, we tell him that he should remove his mittens... Thus the icon... :whistle:

>> It seems that balls do not strike a player's body

Yes, it doesn't.
If it was possible, the result would be likely more often unfair than fair, coz in real life, u can turn ur shoulders or over part of the body to avoid the ball...

>> Do real tennis players that use two-handed backhand frequently also use one-handed backhand slice?
yup, they do.

Only Santoro do 2-handed slice... ;)
In TE2009 (and also in real life), it gives a little extra wingspan which is needed when u're short on time.

>> Why is it that when I, playing left-handed, serve to the AD court (say first serve of a game) and use the slice (arrow up),
>> I can't serve any farther to the left of the "T" than maybe a third of the width of the service rectangle?

The default direction is altered by the slice...

@About volley, for CC & btaylor:
>> As I've stated more than a few times, no HUMAN player can cover the court from sideline-to-sideline-to
>> sideline-to-sideline running down accelerated volleys and groundstrokes

Actually, it's possible to do it once or twice, before getting tired. But in TE2009 players don't get tired, so they can do it non-stop...
Also, with enough training & skills, it's possible to end most points in 2 volleys. (usually, at least one needs to be an accelerated volley to achieve this)
