Court Types + Ball Bounce Height

Postby zaidf » 28 Oct 2008, 19:28

I have changed my court type, but in online, match and practise they are always still the blue-green cement one. Why?

Court Types

Postby Norberto » 06 Nov 2008, 14:12

Hello Mana from Spain!

I am an old customer of TE, and I have just bought TE2009. Thanks to make this game even better than last one!

Two questions about current court types.

1. From slowest to fastest play (or highest to lowest rebounce), what is now the court classification?

2. Have you implemented any slidding ability in clay courts to reach far balls?

Thks in advance,
Norberto

Hello Norberto,

1- Clay, NewLine Synthetic, Classic Synthetic, Cement, Blue-Green Cement, Indoor Hard, Indoor Carpet, Grass

2- nope, it's still the same system based on inertia, except this time it's improved so ur player will slow down more or less quickly to try to strike the ball with his racket sweet spot

The ball bounce seems way too low on the Carpet, Indoor Hard, and Grass courts.

I just double-checked, and it's surely not "way too low"... I'd take comments about being "a bit too low", though... ;)
But personally, I think it's ok... Any other people having comments about this..?

Ok, a bit too low :)
But the ball seems to die prematurely. Like playing with dead tennis balls.
The bounces in TE2006 were more accurate I think.

I've been playing around with the court bounces for the past week (because I felt that a few were a bit too low), and with the help of Youtube, I feel as if I have found more comparable bounces to the actual surfaces. This is in no way intended to be a difference with Manu, it's just from a personal perspective.
I think I even spent 4 straight hours one night trying to match exactly with videos from Youtube, lol. But for what it's worth, here is what I came up with. Just a note: This is just based on watching highlights on Youtube and the Tennis Channel on television, so I didn't do the real-world research that Manu did. I'm still working on Cement and Indoor Hard.
Clay: Friction 0.47, Elasticity 0.97
Grass: Friction 0.57, Elasticity 0.93
Classic Synthetic: Friction 0.54, Elasticity 0.89
Indoor Carpet: Friction 0.57, Elasticity 0.89
Blue-Green Cement: Friction 0.57, Elasticity 0.93
NewLine Synthetic: Friction 0.52, Elasticity 0.90

I left all other settings as they were in the court.ini files.
Oh, and I have Topspin settings for both me and CPU at 20%.

CC: there's no way BG and Grass could have exactly the same settings. Other than that, I'm not really sure...

No. Even with those settings, the grass court is noticeably faster than the B-G cement. There seem to be other settings in the file that have an affect on the bounce, besides friction and elasticity.

That's interesting, Brad. Manutoo, do you think you could explain all of these factors?

Re: Court Types + Ball Bounce Height

Hello,

Elasticity = the coefficient for the vertical speed after the rebound
Friction = the coefficient for the horizontal speed after the rebound (ie: actually, this is "1.0f - Friction" for people who care about physics :) )
SkidAngleRatioBase & MaxSkidAngleRatio = determine when the ball rolls or skids during the rebound
Grass = tell if this court is made of grass or not ; the grass has the special ability to "absorb" the spin effect, thus the topspin & slice will have less effect on the rebound direction & height

The settings by Brad1981 are not realistic when looking only at the physics of the court. If the result is more realistic in game, it means something is wrong with the air resistance... (on which I have some doubts, coz sometimes, I feel it's a bit too strong on low ball speed... :? )
