TE2009 : Beta 2

Postby manutoo » 15 Oct 2008, 09:13

Hello,

Here the Beta 2 :
www.managames.com/download.php?TennisElbow2009_fb2.exe [ ~13MB ]

Not much differences with the Beta 1, except an important change when playing with very low skills. It was more or less impossible to beat the CPU nor to do a winning acceleration when playing with very low skills (around 0~10%), especially with the Women in the Tour : they have 25% handicap on power; ie 0% for a woman equals to -25% for a man ; this handicap isn't applied in the "Training Club".
So I did many tunings to correct that, mainly they are :
- CPU will do more faults when his consistency skill is low, especially when he doesn't have enough time to prepare his strikes
- minimum acceleration speed has been raised
- ball lengths for normal & short strikes have been lowered when the power is very low

One other important tuning:
- the aiming was wrong when doing an acceleration with 100% in the skills, it was leading to unwanted length faults. (I think that's what Brad1981 was complaining about since 1 month for the CPU faults ;) )

Now, I just need to do the tournament selection & the end of week qualies selection when losing early in a tournament, as well as updating the player bases, and the TE2009's World Tour will be done..! :)

After that, I'll have to write the documentation, and take care of the translation, and it'll be all done, hopefully in 2 weeks..! :hello1:

Great, Manutoo!

The visual bugs with the all black player probably was just because I had a lot of things open at once -- I mainly was joking about how hard the CPU player is to beat.
The problem with downloading at that time, and for several days, was that the file was not found or something like that. I was using the same link in the prevous topic that I had always used. Anyway, the new beta downloaded just fine.

Thanks!

Manutoo,

I am getting too frustrated with the connection problems to want to play the game anymore. More than 70% of the time, it simply won't connect, either with another player for a game that I host or with someone else's game. I am having to end the task, and often I have to reboot the computer. I suspect that others are also having these issues. Is there anything that I can do to make this better?

@CC :
Could u try to turn off your firewall to see if it helps ..?
On version of last Sunday, I lowered the size of the message needed to connect, but it seems it didn't have much effect for ur case.
Are you starting 2 sessions of Tennis Elbow, and connect online with both of them at same time ..?
Ctrl + Alt + Del to kill TennisElbow.exe should avoid u to have to reboot.

@Everybody :
Are u experiencing connecting problem as well ? ( = blocked on the "Connecting..." screen).

I got this trouble at 1st, but I didn't have it since long time... (since I lowered the connecting message size on 1st time, about 3 weeks ago)

@kyuuji :
To see all the courts in-game, u must have the full version... ;)

Manutoo,

It doesn't seem to make any difference how many games I have open -- it happens on both computers (Windows 98 and Windows XP), with only the game open once and active or otherwise, and with the software and hardware firewall turned off.

Hey thanks for adding us in the credits, Manu :wink:
Re: Post in Beta 1 topic: For the camera, I was suggesting more of a fixed zoom, where the camera doesn't move foreward or backward. And this could be applied just to the "Still" and "Scrolling" cameras. So when in these cameras, the user can set the desired zoom level and have it stay there regardless of movement. (But in "Scrolling", still keep the side to side movement).
The bug when switching to the far end of the court and minimizing the screen and then going back to the game is kinda fixed. The player now stays on the correct side, but the controls are reversed, i.e. pushing left makes the player move to the right, etc.

Manu, when I try to install it it says "... Beta 2", but when I open the game it says "Beta 1" on the blue line of the menu and "Beta 1 (build 8)" in credits. Is it right or my PC is having problems?

The firewall I have with system mechanic 8 has to be turned off or I can't connect either, also my firewall sometimes can effect my graphics.

I understand about firewalls, and I am sure that this is not the issue. The connection test works fine, so the traffic is being forwarded correctly, etc. It is just when the player tries to connect that the problem occurs (either my connecting or their connecting to my game).

Manutoo,

The screen capture does not create any file (F11). It seems that pressing this button does nothing. Also, on this computer (Windows 98), and detailed shadows are not working, but they did several releases ago of TE2009.

@Everybody :
Version updated with a new connection protocol, which will hopefully result in a lot less connection problem...
Let me know if it's better than before or not.
Let me know as well if u never had connection problem anyway.

I also changed "Beta 1" to "Beta 2" in the in-game info, to make Santiago92 not worry too much... :P

@CC :
>> Detailed Shadow
I forgot to tell u that I got ur System.log and it looked normal, but like the shadows were off.
Could u try to manually change this line in the Tennis.ini, under [3dEngine], from :
Shadow = 0
to :
Shadow = 1
(in case it's not already on 1 :roll: )

@Brad1981 :
Ooops, controls are fixed now ;)
