TE2009 : Beta 1

General discussions about the 3rd edition of Tennis Elbow

Postby CC » 12 Oct 2008, 04:31

I forgot to mention something. The connection consistency is very bad right now. I am constantly experiencing the "Connecting..." message with no response afterwards, and then I have to end the task of the main application and a process named "tenniselbow.exe." With previous versions of TE2006, I could swap to another application and then come back to my hosted game to check the status and start the game if someone was waiting, but now this is almost impossible.

CPU speed

Postby btaylor » 12 Oct 2008, 06:45

Jenks10s.... Myself, Brad1981, Swiliamz, and Tom Paulman all seem to have similar views about the cpu speed. He IS able to get to impossible shots, but Manutoo seems to feel that our players already move faster than world-class professionals and that's ALL that's necessary. :? Heck, Nadal would have serious trouble and he gets to everything!! The cpu player still seems faster yet and can accelerate in ALL directions and we can't (remember it's a human vs a cyborg) so for those of us that want to practice/compete with the cpu and don't have the required skills/reflexes it seems we have 4 options...1)edit whatever attributes are necessary between your player and the cpu...2)use the mtrun cheat code to even things up ... 3) use both of the options together, or...4) compete at a lower level. Also, does anyone else see ANY difference in jump ability from the volleyer as opposed to the other skill types? I don't :roll: Maybe it's just me, but I was just wondering because once you play against master or incredible you NEED an edge because these guys are just that...INCREDIBLE. Especially at net they're like VISA...everywhere you wanna be!! They jump ALL OVER the place but YOU can't, no matter HOW you edit your player :( I guess it is what it is...that said, it's still a fun game and I can easily spend a couple hours at a time fooling around with it :) p.s. The other option I didn't mention is PRACTICE, but I hope that's what we're all doing anyway! 8-)

@Everybody :
Updated version (Build 5) :
- gameplay: fixed a bug making the player accelerating very slowly when accelerating in zig-zag
- gameplay : slighlty increased the deceleration strength
- AI: tuned the AI to make it shorten the points after many strikes (Defender vs Defender points could last several minutes each..!! :? )
- online : reduced the size of the connecting messages when playing Singles, so hopefully it'll lower the problems with it

www.managames.com/download.php?TennisElbow2009_fb1c.exe [ ~13MB ]

Although many people have trouble with the running speed & ball reach, not everybody complain about the same thing.

I timed TE2006 & TE2009 runs, and both are very similar, and almost identical to the initial run speed of 100m sprinters ( http://speedendurance.com/2008/08/22/us ... endurance/ ).
So I think the acceleration doesn't need change. What I'm less sure about is the deceleration. I don't have exact numbers about this one, and it's an important parameter for the gameplay feeling as well, so I just slighlty increased its strength. Hopefully, u should feel it's better now. On the other side, it may be tougher to catch on wrong foot the CPU now...

There was also a bug when accelerating in zig-zag ; for example: pressing down, then down+right, & then back to down only many times in a short period of time.

A little quick tip: the shorter your player is, the bigger the acceleration bonus he'll get (although it's a very small bonus, only to compensate his smaller size, so his smaller reach).

@jenks10s :
When u see a shot is far from u, don't despair, just run after the ball and u'll see sometimes u'll be able to catch it..! :) (it was one of the 1st thing my tennis teacher taught me on a real court ;) )

@Tom Paulman :
Are u playing with the mouse ?
Was it happening only online ?
Anyway, I corrected a bug related to this, so let me know if it still happens or not.

@kyuuji :
Je ne suis pas sûr de comprendre... Tu veux que les joueurs courent plus vite ? Ou qu'ils soient plus animés ?

@CC :
Except on the best dropshots (ie: when ur opponent strikes them from inside the court or at the volley), u should have time to run to them with the speed at 75% ( = default setting).

@btaylor :
I'm not sure what is wrong about lowering the CPU level if he's too strong for u, and why it wouldn't be better than me making the whole game easier... :roll:

2 important tips :
- on baseline, if you want to hit winning acceleration, just step into the court when ur opponent does a shorter ball
- at the net, hit acceleration when the ball is high but not too high, and in the middle of ur racket

If u're able to do that, u'll make a lot of winners..! :)

>> Volley Jump
I checked the volley jump, and with a Defender, I jumped about 1m20, while with the volleyer, I jumped about 1m90.

>> Incredible AI
In TE2006, a few people complaining the incredible level was too easy..!
So for TE2009, the Incredible CPU cheats (a bit, just by about 10% higher skills), and he's globally very very strong & aggressive.
With the intermediate SubLevel, everybody should be able to find a level meeting his own skills...

I did a quick check and the movement seems to be better now, so thanks for correcting it so quickly. Can't wait to try it in online mode :)

It wasn't happening only online, but also aginst computer, and I'm playing only with keyboard..

Tom Paulman & Everybody, it seems the network subsystem hangs sometimes. To fix this, u have to exit the game, press CTRL+ALT+Del & kill TennisElbow.exe ...
I already spent some time on it, but I really cannot find what's wrong... :?
I guess I'll have to use another subsystem in the future (which would be a good occasion to move to one compatible with Mac OSX ;) ), but now, I don't have time to do that...

That would make my life a lot easier! After all, Mac users are paying the same price for worse product, and if Quake and bunch of other games can have it... ;)

BTW I just noticed the new court, woohoo! What kind of court it is? Is it the Lyon indoor court? Or the new AO court? :)

Great! Squeaky sound is back!

But...and this has been so for a couple of updates...shadows are only circle even though I have selected detailed shadows. Is there anything that I can do to correct this on my end?

Thanks!

There is a bug in online games.. I tried joining Chiller and eronakold through Hamachi.. I chose Find local games, I saw their game, I joined.. it showed the screen with ping, ELO etc. But when they accepted me, the game fell down :( Same happened when I tried to host.

En faite tu vois, ils font genres ROBOTS là dans le jeu, et je voudrais qu'il bouge un peu plus, un peu réaliste comme dans TOP SPIN 2.

new line synthetic?, it's like the AO court, no?
another statistic problem
1st serve 28/34(6 errors)
and...1/4 points won on second serve

@Everybody :
I think I know what is the bug, and it should have 2 ways to fix it:
- completely uninstall & reinstall the game
- or enter the "Character Sheet" menu in the "Training Club" at least 1 time & after it should be alright as well

@Tom Paulman:
>> for worse product

I guess u meant : "for a little bit less so great product"..! :P

And yup, the new court is the new AO Court..! ;)

@CC :
After u have selected "Detailed Shadows", have u clicked on "Apply" ..?

@kyuuji :

The slightly increased deceleration strength, does this mean the player continues on a bit after stopping or does it mean stopping more quickly?
