TE2009 : Beta 1

General discussions about the 3rd edition of Tennis Elbow

Postby Brad1981 » 09 Oct 2008, 21:38

jenks10s, I've found that using the mtrun parameter in the .ini file helps in this. I use normal sprint speed but I raise the acceleration of my player. Works like a charm.
Manu, I was wondering...for playing against the CPU, it would be neat to have a player/playing style with all the combined skills of each individual playing style, i.e. max volley steps AND unlimited accelerations. Actually, I have always wished for a player to have unlimited accelerations; it would not be unrealistic, considering how hard the players hit these days, and I thought it would be a cool feature, just to rally or play with as many hard shots as possible. I know counterpuncher has unlimited accels, but the speed is reduced, so I thought I would mention this. Just for playing the CPU, and CPU can do the same thing back :) Like a "Power" style.

Could u edit your "Tennis.ini" and change this line, under [3dEngine], from :
T&L = 2
to :
T&L = 1
(if it's already on 1, try to set it to 2)
& let me know if it changes something or not ..?

[.

i changed it, it was on 2 and i changed it to 1, and got this (?!):

@jenks10s :
if u press Up, u'll accelerate up, if u press up+left, u'll accelerate between up & left. At total, that gives 8 possibles direction for acceleration. It's not possible to have more, except by using an analogical joystick, like the ones on a PS2 gamepad for example... (but anyway, right now, the engine bounds acceleration to 8 directions).
But of course, u can run in any direction.

If you play fast enough, u'll see the CPU is shuffling also when starting to run, if he didn't finish to replace himself when u do ur strike... The difference is that he's not complaining about it... ;)
The CPU is under the exact same rules than ur player about inertia & acceleration strength.

@Brad1981 :
With a Power Baseliner at 100% in Stamina, u can hit up to 8 accelerations at full speed, that's already a lot... :roll:

@milos :
Humm, it confirms that the problem comes from ur video card... :?
Unfortunately, I have not much idea why it was working before & not anymore...

milos, that's a good news..! :)
Could u try with the "Mixed" mode & tell me the result, as well..?
I think by default, it should have been on "Mixed", not on "Hardware"...

:( Just thought it would be fun to have a playing style with no constraints...especially in training mode (which I do a lot :) ) I really like rallying.

Postby Tom Paulman » 11 Oct 2008, 19:57

Today I played my first online match and I'm really enjoying this game, it's way more entertaining than TE2006.. anyway.. am I the only one who can't run in some moments? Especially if I want to run backwards and to the side at the same time, it feels like the player is stuck or moving very very slowly.. it also happens when I run backwards when I'm trying to return the lob.. the player starts running way too late, when the lob has already landed...

There is also an irrelevant bug in the chat.. when I'm in the chat, it shows two messages over each other... one is "Player X paused the game" and the other message is something like "Press F12 to..." which is covering the "paused the game" words.

Top Spin 2.

C'est possible ?

Running Back for lob

Postby solarisaint » 12 Oct 2008, 03:00

When your at the net volleying the second he lifts that lob, don't touch any buttons just go backwards position yourself and 'then' hold down the 1 button firm That's What's been working for me. I still need to pratice more and many can attest to that by my online presence.
If this stuff was to simple we all get bored real fast :roll:

I can attest to what Tom Paulman said. We played, and I found it pointless to even attempt to get to his drop shots when I was at the baseline. I need to read through the forum and the documentation to make some changes to my player's attributes, as I haven't really tuned them, but the forward movement seems really slow. If I happen to zig-zag a bit when moving forward, then the movement is even slower. I am having such a hard time with this, but I will tune things and try some more. Just a tip -- Paulman is already pretty good at net, and he just started playing online with TE2009, so watch out! :P
