What was your best ranking in real life ?

Postby manutoo » 13 Sep 2008, 09:00

Hello,

I'm not sure how works the USA ranking for non-pro players, so if someone cares to explain, it'll be great..! :)

My best ranking has been 30/1 for 4 years in a row...
And I hope one day I'll have time to train well, and reach 15/5..! :P

PS: I'm not very sure of the labels between the braces (example : [Club Player]), but it gives a rough idea in case the country where you were ranked didn't use the handicap based ranking used in France.

I found a page explaining the US Rating here :
http://www.athleticinsight.com/Vol3Iss2 ... eStudy.htm

It's not related to any amateur tournaments. It makes me even wonder if they have some in USA...

Strangely, a decent club player will rate 4.0, while a pro will rate 6 or more... So the scale is really not linear...

I've played tennis on a good level till I was 17. I guess I was a 5.5 player in the US scale when I was at the top of my game. But I was incredibly immature ans shy and also lacked attitude, so I almost never was able to perform in the same level on trainings and on matches. Since 2003 I have stopped playing; these days I restarted to train serves (the main weakness of my game - not technically, but mentally speaking). I've recorded a few minutes and posted it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-ZhmOqTklc. Unfortunatelly the video is too dark, and I think this youtube version is slower than the original, but the recording was made just for fun. :P

Manutoo, I've tried to register last week (I'm the one who have interacted with you on the issue of the ball speed on groundstrokes), but the confirmation e-mail has never appeared in my mailbox. Do you have any idea why wasn't it possible?

Xuxa_Kuerten, maybe ur anti-spam stopped the registration email, or maybe u entered a wrong email address. Anyway, I just manually activated ur account, so u should be able to log-in now...

I was a college player, and ranked 5.0 for a few years. I coached for a while, but had to enter the real world, and my dreams were dashed. I still want to enter qualies of a $10k somewhere in the southern US one of these years.

Leena,

You should try to enter the qualies at the Legg Mason tournament in Wash. D.C. in June, or is it July...whatever...
I have a lady friend (in her mid 30's, no less) who plays at our city court in Fredericksburg, Va. that beats most of the decent local men (even some div. 2 college team men players). She's about a 5.0 player also...I think...

She played the qualies last year with decent results, winning her first match 6/3, 6/3, and lost her second match 6/3, 3/6,6/3
(I take it that you are female, since you are named "Leena)

I'm female, so can't play in Washington. :p Besides, $25k and up, you need to be ranked or have some accomplishments to get into qualifying, unless you're rich like Brie Whitehead.

Leena,

It wasn't a WTA main tour qualie....I believe it may have been an ITF Qualie she played in. There were also women's doubles being played at the Legg Mason....

I guess I am anywhere between 4.0 and 4.5 [US]. I'm playing only for fun with friends. We enetered a couple of amateur tourneys without considerable success  The biggest challenge for me is the patience...I always rush the ball
