How about we reduce Top Spin serve?

Postby Uchiha Muss » 30 May 2013, 18:14

Just want to say, that I don't play this vanilla game. I installed custom mod which is ITST for those who don't know. But that shouldn't make a difference since it's about the physics of the game.

Basically I'm looking at players who serve top spin serve for their 2nd serve or for the 1st one if they feel too cocky. That's just overrated serve. It's kinda all right when I'm playing with players like the height of Federer. But when I'm with ferrer, goffin The ball basically goes over my head.
How ridiculous is that? Horrible if you ask me. They can't possibly expect me to go all the way back and work my way in to the baseline. Nope not gonna want that.
You know those players have top spin of 36 and lower. I'd imagine Ivo Karlovic would be left in awe if Nadal served one of his top spins to the backhand.
I mean come on, In real life top spin serve doesn't even exist. Okay maybe a little bit, but very negligible. Those who play tennis in real life should know that Top spin serve is absurd. Just imagine trying to serve top spin. Did you? How would you even wave your racket to produce that kind of bounce? Unreal one. That's what that is. UNREAL.

Long story short, I'd like top spin serve be reduced 50% AT THE LEAST. I'm particularly looking at Manutoo if he reads forum messages.
So yeah I don't know if this message will make any impact but it's worth a try, I guess. What harm could it possibly do? 0. Yaaaay.
Instead of god damn frustration I can instead focus on lobbying these kind of messages.

I agree, it is a bit exaggerated in my opinion. I usually play as Berdych on the ITST mod so as you mentioned it's not so bad (and sometimes I even get more powerful shoulder height shot) but I do feel a little guilty when I perform that serve myself, especially onto my opponent's weaker wing.

Hello,

On a real court, my topspin serve can bounce near 2m high, ie: above head of most players in the world (except Karlovic ':D ).

b.b.. b. but in real life you can jump...

No seriously I don't use top spin serve myself and this is apparently my weakness these days. I look at other players they win at least 70% of their 2nd serve. Me? just below 45% all the time. My return is solid, rallies are okay. Net presence is there. 1st serve does its job.
But as soon as the 1st serve goes wide, I can smell trouble for myself. *sniff* *sniff*

I'd guess I shouldn't be blamed for NOT using top spin serve. Yeah I can use wicked opposite kinds of spin serves, but that's not the solution. It's just improvisation or desperation whichever you want. Sometimes I go with b1 for my 2nd serve or If I get lucky my b2 serves 160km/h at best.

I try to learn from CPU. But when I serve top spin CPU struggles a lot. What the hell am I supposed to learn from that. If CPU incredible level 1 can't handle it, I can't.

My proposal is still active. At this rate even 25% reduction is still a win for me.

Players do jump in real life and they dont in the game so there is a little difference..

Uchiha Muss,
just step back 1 or 2m and you'll be fine returning the topspin serve.

Dasp,
there's not much penalty for 2m high balls, so there's no need for jumping (and I don't think players jump that much on return of serve...).

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand we're at the beginning of my post. The whole reason I posted this topic was so I wouldn't have to step back so much. It's really hard to come back to the baseline from there. Dropshot? Don't even start me talking about it.

If you're not gonna reduce, then I guess I'm gonna be silent. Unless anyone want to challenge me on.
