Don't listen to the haters, manutoo. The update is a definite improvement.

Algo,
on the pic you posted, the ball is "on another side of the net" for the CPU, not your player, which is not finishing his anim but starting it, so your explanation doesn't make much sense for me, or I'm missing something completely...

Markizo,
main goal of new Fair mode is to help new players to come to play Online. Old Fair mode was fairly unrealistic, so by consequence, new Fair mode is more realistic ; but if you want the most realistic experience, then you have the Realistic Mode.
About Net play, read what other people said...

Tristan von Blomberg & lreese,
thx! :jap:

I can clearly see the cross preview going towards player 2 (I didn't even change the default female...), that means I'm the one that hit the ball, but you can see my player (bold, red t shirt) was starting his anim, despite the fact the ball was already hit

Maybe my system.log could show something?

I collected some facts to show that there aren't drawbacks (which previously described) since the last update. Me and three other players played (fair mode) total of 100 matches (what's significant enough) with the last update against players with an ELO of 1.600 to 2.600. We played as counter, power baseliner and baseliner. Here are the facts:

Statement: Rallies are to long
Rallies are shorter :!: since the update and have been taken 7 percent more often during the first 15 strikes.

Statement: Not able to hit winners
There are 4 percent more winners (1.5 percent as counter, 2 percent as baseliner and 6 percent as power baseliner), 5 percent more unforced faults and 10 percent less aces. But aces were still 13 percent more often as in real tennis. (source: ATP World Tour Statistics)

Statement: Match time are longer
Match times are 2 percent longer since the new update and 40 percent shorter as in real tennis. (related to calculated times in TE [not play time] and ATP World Tour Statistics)

Statement: Update detrimentals power baseliner and net players
Power baseliner has hitten 6 :!: percent more winners. We and our opponents were 11 percent more succesful at net since the new update.

Altogether gameplay has been more realistic than ever before. Only aces and net game are conspicuous in my little survey. :D Good work Manutoo.

Look manu in my view i think this version is simply " great " But the second serve is horrible just 183 Km/h or 140 KM/h and like that people can won many points

Well Manu now, this game is going completely the wrong way!
Thanks for that!
Again it's not possible to play with counter anymore.=>very slow speed of acceleration and even the serve is much slower...

If you hit a return,it's more then 6 out of 10 that you misshit it=>powershot looks like a shot without button push.(and right in the middle)

And yes my pc runs on STEAM!!!

Algo,
I understand the problem now.
Still not sure what's going on, though, as it was working fine on my PC. Did you install the patch ? If yes, could you try to re-install the whole demo instead ?
Normally, the System.log won't help much, but you can post it, at least it should show if you Modded the game or not.

Tristan von Blomberg,
that's some great stats !
Could you link the page where you found the ace % and other stuff ?

Toyo,
I did a quick try in new Fair mode, and as I'm not a counter specialist, it's hard to be sure, but it seems mainly that the acceleration speed on the slow incoming ball is too slow, ie: at same speed than the normal strike ; other stuff seems ok, though : counter is still the best returner, stamina almost not go down, can do acceleration almost all the time, good at the net, etc...
So I'd need other counter testimonies to be sure, but my guess is it needs only 2 or 3 km/h more on the slowest regular acceleration cases, and it should be globally ok.

Manutoo,
I collected the facts about 100 games by log-files and compared this with stats from http://www.atpworldtour.com/Press/Rankings-and-Stats, http://www.atpstats.info and some other sites.

At the same time, I feel bound to say that I'm agreed with the impression that
  • counters should get more accelerated strikes and
  • short strikes should be more flat to defend players on net (or something else to fix that).
By the way - John Isner (14), who lead the statistics of serving aces (1.31 per serving game), served about 27% more aces like me. At the same time I served 13% more aces than Roger Federer (2) (and who will tell us that Federer is bad at service). Juan Monaco (13) is the worst player at serving aces with only 0.07 aces per serving game. :D

Altogether I am a counter with 65% points (fair mode) at service  so I think there's no argument for too slowly or inefficent services.

Some other nice facts: 1st service percentage was 73% (TE) and 61% in real tennis (TOP 100 ATP in 2012), 1st service average speed 182 km/h (TE) and 181 km/h (TOP 50 ATP in 2012) :!: ...

Yup counter needs a little bit more speed on the slowest accelarations, and also when countering fast incoming balls cuz if the other player is PB and has got good movement u can´t use that speed to accelerate the ball to hit a winner..

Finally...thanks Manu for trying this out!

And Shantu => i'm playing this game every day with and without frustrations because I hate losing ...But after all as an experienced player, I think most of the BEST players in TE are DEMO players.

We(full version registered players) need DEMO players to play with. Why? I think that more then 80% of the players are DEMO players and the skills are equal to registered players. We have only more anim and court options but that's all!
If I had more speed and better movements then demo's why should I have posted here a complaint about less speed earlier in this topic???
And again=>>>>>>>the best players total seen are DEMO players!

Tristan von Blomberg,
thanks for the links !

Dasp,
on fast incoming ball, the Counter accel is still fast enough, around 130km/h vs 135km/h for the PB.

Greetings Toyo,

ok. but after 14days of demo version, i cant play on 3d courts which is annoying. and due to this i cant see the corners of my end of the court when my opponent hits it
another problem: in real tennis situation there is nothing like points alloted to how u play. for example, 100 forehand and 0 volley and giving points to each skill is a bad idea. i mean if i want to change my baseline game to volley game, game will not allow me to do it. in reality, a tennis match always can be turned around with changing ur tactics. so the game is also unreal in this prospect.

Dear developer,
let me add one final point, namly the ratio of fore- and backhand speed. The key issue is that (smart) players tend to aim their strikes only on backhand side, because it is always limited to 65 points. I think that

  • a combined limit of 140 points and a related
  • general limit of 75 points
would be good option to fix this. Stefan Edberg, Patrick Rafter or Ivan Ljubi?i? are few examples for players with a stronger backhand. Another possibility would be to set a "distinctive characteristic", for example players with an excellent

  • serve like Andy Roddick (+ ... percent more points at serve),
  • footwork like Roger Federer (+ ... percent at speed),
  • forehand like Gael Monfils / backhand like Stefan Edbergs (+ ... percent more points at fore- / backhand) or
  • reaction like Rafael Nadal (+ ... percent faster auto-position).

These things would be an improvement to develop an individual style and in all imply a better gameplay at tour / online.
