Questions on difficulty

Postby DIsTuRbED » 07 Aug 2019, 13:08

Hi there, been playing TEM2 trying to get the achievements and i'm stuck on master difficulty. The highest rank I reached on master difficulty is 5th with only a single grand slam win at age 28.

1) I start off with a pro (junior doesn't seem to get the potentials as high with the harder difficulties). Is this is the best way?

2) I usually choose volley play style but chose all-rounder this time. Volley seemed more successful. Service is usually my top priority with net play second.

2b) Does changing my playstyle during matches affect anything? I've tried it a few times on the text based matches and didn't seem to change anything when facing against different types. I thought maybe Volley would beat Bulldog or Counter-Puncher/counter would beat volley? Also there's no way to change this in the 3D matches so it's a bit confusing.

3) Is it beneficial to have a single sub skill higher than the others?
EG:
Service Power 75%
Service Consistency 83%
Service Precision 90%

Or is it better to:
Service Power 85%
Service Consistency 85%
Service Precision 85%

Also is this the same for all skills? IE volley, smash etc.

4) I can't seem to get ahead no matter what I do. I put experience into the mind stats between matches as it restores some form, I raise my stats to above 80% across the board, i change my practice courts to the relevant upcoming tournament but can never beat the big 4! Any other tips i'm missing here? If anyone has completed master/incredible difficulties, can you give me any tips that helped you?

Maybe the difficulty is too hard? Would be good to know what people think.

Also: Damn I love these games, TEM2 and TE2013. Can't wait for TE4!

Thanks for any replies :)

Hello,

1) Yes.

2) Do you play all your matches in 3D ? If not, the volleyer is unlikely the best style, as it significantly lowers your chances to win Roland Garros. And in 3d matches it should be the case as well but I'm not sure 100% sure... :blackeye:

2b) It changes the global strategy of your player. In textual matches, it'll strongly change his effectiveness depending on the court speed. In 3d matches, it should be also more or less the case, but maybe to a lesser extent.

3) In textual matches, usually not, or only by a small margin. In 3d matches, it can have significant effects.

4) It was possible to get number 1 in Incredible difficulty in TEM1 (which featured only textual matches). TEM2's master difficulty is a bit harder than TEM1's master difficulty, but it should still be under TEM1's incredible difficulty, so reaching #1 with textual matches should be totally doable. With 3D matches, maybe it's harder though, as they can be a bit more random, especially when a player is just a bit stronger than another one.

2 basic tips that you likely already do : get the best trainers, and a fully upgraded Coach Center..

Hopefully, some other people will give you more tips... :)

Thanks a heap for your reply Manu! I know I ask a lot of questions and you're a busy guy... :)

2) I usually play in textual mode and play quite fast, but I have been watching big matches in 3D like the grand slam finals. Maybe I will stop doing this?

2b) So I should be changing my play style a lot more in textual matches? If so would it be possible to add in a popup menu to select which style you want rather than having to scroll through? I think each time I click to cycle through it penalises me? So i'm handicapped if i miss it and have to cycle through a few times.

4) I actually managed to get #1 rank in master today, It took me until 30 years old to win Wimbledon and the US open for #1. Now i'll be trying to crack incredible difficulty which i'm sure will require yet more strategy to beat. I'm thinking about maybe making a guide for the game when I understand it better. Perhaps also court/player mods if I can get my head around it.

As for the basic tips, I do both of those already and switch to Rick Sanchez (nice reference to Rick and Morty :applause: ) when I get to thirty years of age. I also put points in mental skills between matches as it seems to restore form as rest/yoga does.

5) Do the trainers stack up? For example:

Trainer #1 - Rick Sanchez
+40% Aging specialist & 15% Physiotherapist

Trainer #2 - Gil Seyer
+30% Aging specialist & 20% Physical

Does this mean +70% Aging Specialist? Same question for service and other skills.

6) Is there a limit on how much debt you can get into in game? If so could there be a tooltip or something to let us know?

2) The important point is to have fun, so do the way you enjoy yourself the most ! ;)

2b) The handicap is static and it depends of your base style & the current chosen style

4) Gratz ! :P

5) There's no stacking ; you can check that in the Team tab

6) There's no bankrupt ; when you're in debt, you can't hire trainers, so the more you're in debt, the later you'll have a chance to get to the top

At least according to the tooltips sparing against top ranked players should be the most efficient way to train. You can do this while sharing a location during tournament weeks, so not all the time. You can stay in tournament locations after you have been defeated. If you have a physio trainer you can reduce an opponents form much more than your own by always selecting them as the sparring partner. If you are a worried about one specific opponent in a final this is a solid way to weaken them. These are small edges, but they are edges..

@Manu
Thank-you for all your replies! Can I also ask what is required for the 'Tactician' achievement? I have changed my play style in both text and 3D matches so i'm not sure what i'm not doing right?

@Smoo979
Thanks for the tips, this is exactly what I was looking for!

Are you sure about playing against higher ranked players? It seems I get better surface skills raises if I win sets and not lose?

Hadn't thought of weakening the opponent by training with them! I didn't even realise that was possible.

Excellent, thanks you for your hard work! I thought it was text based but tried 3D when it didn't unlock.

Re: Questions on difficulty

Hi!

Just finishing a game on highest difficulty.

- I started as a young (not pro), in 2002, so I am a bit younger than Nadal and Djokovic.

- I went all-in in defender style, with 100% lift, 75-80% fore/backhand, and service, 50% volley and special, 75-80% mental and physic

- I play text-based and never change the style

- No doubles

- Training wise, I use Yoga a lot, it improves mental skills, some physic and form. And I always do group trainings (not specific skills), as you get bonuses.

- I keep motivation at 100% by giving 12h rest at the end of each week

- Do not hesitate to train instead of participating to tournaments (19 to 25 tournaments is enough, depending on how far you go in those tournaments) Especially if you have a good confidence (after strong results), try to keep it until your next objective by not playing

- I think the 3-star in Champion talents helps a lot to decide wether your player will be random or... champion

Very difficult to win against the top 3 indeed, except on some occasions, so my palmares before 2018 is thin (no GS despite 5 finals, 4 M1000), best ranking #2
But after 2018 as the top 3 gets older (then retire in 2020, 2021), I managed to win 6 GS (3 AO in 18, 19, 21 and 3 RG in 20, 21, 22) and 7 M1000, with #1 spot at the end of 2018 and 2021 (I stayed in the top 3 for almost 5 years)
I almost always kinda skipped the grass season (doing only Wimbledon, best result R3)
On hard court very tough for me but I still managed to win Indian Wells, Miami and Shanghai once each and 2 finals at US Open.

Now I am in 2023, 35, not competitive since I won RG last year (finished #17) but I plan to retire after the 2024 Paris Olympics (I am French ;))

Hope this helps

And by the way, if the developer sees that message: wtf with Carreño Busta? On the 3 games I did he always manages to win 2 or 3 grand slams between 2017 and 2020..., while Del Potro, Wawrinka, and even Djokovic and Murray are far from what they achieved in reality. I know that luck has a lot to do with this but are you a Pablo fan? ;)

Florent,
the randomization engine seems to love Busta because of his past rankings showing a good & steady ascension, but maybe also coz of a special skill setup, as even in 2018, it often gets better result than planned... :blackeye:
