Questions about modding

Postby daniiiel048 » 24 May 2019, 22:57

Hello Manu, and everyone else, I've been playing TE2013 for a while and I was waiting for TE4 but after trying the demo I'm thinking of buying TEM2, I like modding and I've been loving the new options in the Tour.ini and TourCategory.ini but I still I have a couple of questions:

1) I know the Max tournament limit was 512 due to the engine, has this number been raised? If so, what's the new limit? and what about the limit per week, is it still 13 tournaments? I'd like to recreate the calendar (with ITFs and Challengers) since 2015 at least so I want to know if it will be possible.

2) Is the RankPerYear still limited to 20 seasons for the CPU players? Or can they now have a longer career?

3) I've read that the game now generates players for future years, how does the game decides when and how many players to create? Is there a way to customize it so it only creates player from a certain year onwards or to completely turn it off? (I want to create a realistic player database so I don't want to have random players until 2019 at least).

4) I also read in a thread that it's now possible to modify the Players.ini without affecting a saved game, to what extent can I modify it, is it just adding/removing years? Or adding/removing players also?

5) If I completely remove the Junior tournaments, will that have any effects in the game? (I'm not thinking of playing as a junior anyway)

Thanks in advance for any answers, there's no better tennis games :D :D

Hello,

1) Tournament limit is now 32'768, with 45 max per week.

2) There's no limit on RankPerYear.

3) The game will replace every retiring player after [WT_Static]-LastYear, so just raise LastYear. If there are not at least 2 players for each country of the Country Cup, the game will crash.

4) You still cannot remove players.
You can add RankPerYear to existing players without problem (just it'll be ignored for the current year).
You can add up to [WT_Static]-FreePlayerSlots players at the end of the base ; every time you add a player, you have to lower FreePlayerSlots by 1.

5) It should be ok, but I'm not 100% sure... :fear:
It'll make the start of the best players a bit less realistic (as they normally get a few Pro ranking points when they are Junior), but anyway it's not very realistic as it is now.

Re: Questions about modding

Postby cj1984 » 02 Jun 2019, 17:43

I have some more questions for modding the playerbase. I want to be sure to know what my actions do before editing a lot of players:

So let's have a look at the great German Doubles Krawietz/Mies, who have qualified for QF in Roland Garros a few minutes ago. They also won an ATP 250 this year and they are missing in the original playerbase, therefore I want to add them. I did this for Kevin Krawietz:

Name = Kevin Krawietz
Country = DEU
BestRank = 49
Style = varied
Birthdate = 24/01/1992
Body = 191 83
FirstYear = 2010
RankPerYear = 394, 303, 377, 416, 322, 259, 135, 129, 71
SingleDouble = 0.9

BestRank is from 2019, he is on career high (doubles) right now.
RankPerYear from 2010 to 2018
He is not playing much singles anymore

Now my questions:
1- Do these values seem to be good for this player?
2- What ranking will he have in singles when starting 2019?
3- Will he have a good chance to develope well in 2019 like he is doing in real life?
4- When i set skills to 0 are they random relative to his ranking? I don't know him very well so I would be ok with it only to set a few skills
5- Is the new Focus skill normalized?

cj1984,

1) SingleDouble at 0.9 is a good choice for a doubles specialist that (almost) never play singles

2) not sure, but likely a very bad one as he shouldn't play many singles events

3) to be sure he's getting a good rank in 2019, just put it in the RankPerYear : you can put rank for fictional years.

4) 0 means minimum possible ; better to set them around his skill average, so for each skill choose randomly a number between 20-40 if the average is 30 (you decide of the average ; eg: if you put 30 everywhere, then the average is 30)

5) Yes, so it should be always correctly relative to Speed & Tonicity (I didn't check though :fear: )

Re: Questions about modding

Postby cj1984 » 17 Jun 2019, 21:28

Me again :D
So I want to make a Tour.ini with original Data down to Future Tournaments. This will increase the number of tournaments significantly. I already did this for TE2013 and of course there were problems with empty (qualifying-)draws. But maybe there is a knee surgery incoming and I would have some weeks were I have lot's of free time :roll: So I'm planning to add, mostly lower ranked, players to the database. Can you tell me how the game will react if I add, let's say, 100 new players with ranking 250-1000? Will the draws be filled up?
What does "Best rank" do? Is it important for years after 2019?

@Users who may be interested in my files, this is what I plan to do:
- 2019 men's calender including correct events of Main-, Challenger- and Future Tour
- Adding players with correct bio and randomized skills to the database (This will be players who won a Future event in 2019 for example)
@daniiiel048 did you start working on the playerbase?
- Adjusting some of the cost's so the game will not become too easy because of the increased prize money

If I'm bored enough in summer, I may do the same for women's Tour, but no promises (also not for men's Tour)

cj1984,
1) You need about nearly 100 players per new 32-draw tournament per week ; the strict minimum is 28 main players + 32 qualies = 60, but should account for doubles not playing in singles & vice versa

2) BestRank is used to scale a few mental skills => https://www.managames.com/tennis/doc/HowToMod.html

I have more questions, this time about "MaxActivePlayer":
1. The default value is 1750. Does the game generate players up to this number? Or will it have no effect if I raise the number without adding players to the .ini?
2. How many "spots" are reserved for Junior players? For me it looks like 1250 pro players and about 500 juniors, is that correct?
3. When I add players without raising MaxActivePlayer some of the created players won't be in my save, right? I added six players without raising, one of them did not show up. So I guess I have to raise the limit for every player I add!?

cj1984,
1) It's only the size for the internal buffer referencing the active players ; you can raise it, it won't have any consequence

2) There's no spot reserved for Juniors ; each player in the base who starts his Pro career at 18 or younger will 1st come as a 14 year old Junior ; so some years there are a lot of Junior, and some other, not that much (which is kind of an issue right now :fear: )

3) If there are still less than 1750 ranked players, then you don't need to raise MaxActivePlayer. If a player is missing, check the "Tennis Elbow Manager 2_Data\output_log.txt" for warning & error, and check his player years are correct

Hi Manutoo,

A quick question.
How should you enter the score 'when you simulate a match' and you want to change the score?
I tried - and / and \ between the game points, but I don't get it done :).

Thanks.

Guest,
you can put anything you want between the numbers as long as it's not numbers... ':D

But the parsing was bugged. It's fixed in today's build.

Re: Questions about modding

Postby lizKulich » 22 Jul 2019, 22:22

Hi manutoo, thanks for the game, I have a few of questions..

1) Can RankPerYear be set for fictional years?

2) Generally how will the ranking level for players in fictional years work? Related between BestRank and age? So if I set a BestRank for a player above what he achieved so far,he will naturally/randomly raise to that level over time or it will happen immediately? Is a players level capped by their BestRank or its more dynamic>

3) Can a players FirstYear be a fictional year?

4) In making tiurnament any way to make the singles & doubles format different, ie in the Masters, a group stage for the singles and straight knockout for doubles?

5) I noitce the YOB of some players is quite off, many by a year or two but some by as much as 13 years, is there a particular reason for this? Does the game force a minimum age on players? After how many years will a player typically auto retire. Does that extend if they are still at a high level?

Thanks!

Re: Questions about modding

Postby manutoo » 23 Jul 2019, 10:44

lizKulich,

1) Yes

2) If a player is young enough, his BestRank may be raised by the game engine, and his progression speed will be random. The BestRank won't be lowered and the engine will usually make the player reaches that rank (it's random as well).

3) Yes

4) No

5) All players below a certain best rank (around ~100) are moved around in time so there are 999 Pro players every year.
Best players play about 14 years ; other ones about 16-18 years.
Top 2018 players aged more than 30 years old should play 1 or 2 more years before retiring.
