low slices

Postby alex » 09 Apr 2005, 12:53

Hi,

the game's great in giving real touch of the ball.
Still one thing that I may not understand is - how to slice
(especially from backhand) low above the net, making
low rebound and difficult for the partner to strike a winner.
I mean, like in ATP site "Mercedez" video in recent Pacific Life final
(Federer vs. Hewitt) Federer feeds (oops) low slices one after one to the
backhand of Hewett (total 45 strikes rally).

Anyway, thnx!

Hello,

you can hit slices holding the button 2 and up at the same time when striking the ball.
The ball will rebound less high than usually, and your opponent will strike a bit less strong acceleration than usually (but the difference is not too obvious).

more time

Yeah, that combination works. Great! But the more I think, the more I think that slices are meant to keep pace with too aggressive opponents. When the guy hits real tough, we slice when we can't have time to hit ourselves. Another advantage is additional time to regain position while the ball is in the air. That's why I think the combination Ctrl+Up should slow down the ball (make its flight longer and la-lala butterfly-like), and still place it confident under the base line.
