"Trial version time expired" in online game

Postby athank » 21 May 2007, 01:56

Hello,

I am not sure if this is a bug, that is wht I am posting it in this forum. I am still evaluating the shareware version of the game and although the 30 days or so are finished the game still allows me to play online and from what I have read, the creator of the game intends it to allow people to play the trial version online.

However, earlier today when I was playing someone online, we were 6/6 and playing to 7 (the score was something like 3/2) when a message came up that I have never seen before. I am paraphrasing here but the gist of the message was this: "Trial version time limit expired" and then the game ended and it listed my opponent as the winner (I am assuming he was listed since he was winning on points 3/2). What is happening?

Is the developer of the game intending to allow trial versions to work online but only for a limited time (less than a one set game)?

Please let me know as I still need some time to evaluate the game before I make a decision to purchase the full version.

Hello,

the online matches are limited to 11 minutes when both players have the demo version.
If you play against someone who has the full version, this limit is removed. Moreover if you join a game created by someone who has the full version, you can play up to 5-set matches.

Except that, the game itself will start and let you create & join online games forever.

Internet games window problem?

Postby Guest » 21 May 2007, 23:04

Hello,

Thanks for your quick reply and for explaining the way this works for me. I think that what you have done is completely fair.

Now, there seems to be another problem which again, may not be one, but I would love an explanation if possible.

I am using the demo version and joined a game of someone who has the full version and we played and he won :(

However, as soon as the game is over I have no option to replay him/her or he/she to play with me. After I press OK, the screen goes back to the join/create game screen and I have to look if any game is available to join. At this time I am not interested in creating my own game.

Howver, when I use the filter to show only available games, no game is available and when I turn it off, the games that are available include the game that I just finished playing!

I refresh the ping and the list and the game is listed with the final score (6/2) and after a few refreshes and pings the game goes up the list to the top.

Why is this? Is this supposed to happen this way? Also, after I finish a game with another player, do I have to go back to the screen and look for another game?

If this is the case, and assuming that both players (the other player and me) want to play a few games, why is there not an option to play another game as soon as one game is finished? Why does the program 'force' me to go back to the find game screen to look for another game?

Sorry for the long post, but I would greatly appreciate a reply

Hello,

yup, there's no "Re-match" button at the end of a match, but it's a good idea, and I'll try to add it for a future update.

For the moment, if you want a re-match, you have to chat with him at the end of the match (if he didn't run away ;) ), and ask him if he wants another to play another game. Then wait that he creates a new game, and hope to be the 1st one to join it...

hard to increase my playing level online

Postby Guest » 22 May 2007, 23:29

Hello,

Thanks for listening to my suggestion and thanks for the reply. I have one last question/comment: I am still evaluating the demo version and since now I can only play online, I am not able to find anyone who has a low score like mine (I am at 755 at the moment!) to play with. I keep seeing the same names and everyone else it seems except me has very high scores which I am sure enables them to play better than me and so it seems I do not have any chances of increasing my abilities and score.

I am wondering if it would be possible to create 'classes' like beginner (similar to club, junior, master, etc) in which are listed those with corresponding scores. So, when I try to join an online game, I can see the list but I can also see the different classes and see any players who are available to play. The idea here is similar to the forum with all the different categories like 'bug reports', 'general', etc.

I guess my major problem here is that there are only a few online players and all of them have abilities much greater than mine. Therefore, it seems impossible for me to advance at all. I am not sure how to resolve this - would having the full version help at all?

Hello,

unfortunately, there are still not enough online players to create such filter.
But when you put your mouse cursor on a game name, you can see the player's ELO score in the bottom bar. So you can know it before to join the game.

There are a few players between 900 & 1200, and I guess you could enjoy playing against them, even if you'll need more training to beat them.
And there always are new players coming to try the online mode. If you catch them, you may even be able to win ! ;)

With the full version, you'd be able to play a lot against computer, so you would probably increase your strength, but depending of your natural skills, you may or not reach the same level than other online players, nothing is guaranteed... ;)
