Help on creating custom courts.

Postby Leena » 30 Oct 2006, 06:33

I'm hardly a designer, so I don't know much of what I'm doing.

What is the best way to just change the color of the court without getting ugly jaggies, and such?

I use Paint Shop Pro. Are there better programs for doing these sorts of things?

Thanks.

Hello,

I didn't use PSP since a few years ago, but I'm sure it should be able to do this.
So you have to use the Magic selection tools (it's a tool that selects a region that has small color changes around the point you clicked), and set the sensitivity to the good ratio (the try/retry way is the best to find it), so you can select all the ground without anything more.
On the blue-green cement, it should be quite easy if you do the blue zone, and after the green zone, as each zone as very low color variations.

Once you selected the area you wanted, change the hue, contrast, luminosity until you reach the desired result.

All of this can be done in Photoshop as well.

If you have more questions, I'm there..! ;)
And if you reach a nice result, you can show it and/or share it here..!

I used the magic tool before. It worked perfectly on the blue portion of the court, but when I tried selecting the green part it left a big, ugly white jagged line along the outside of the court when I used the flood fill. And messed up the time clock. I didn't try altering any other settings, so maybe that will fix it.

And I doubt anyone would want to see the courts I create. I'm a beginner with any graphic design. :( I basically just want to change the colors of the court, and court conditions, to the respective tournaments during the year. And add a couple logos, etc...

Thanks for adding this feature. It's really cool. This game is great fun for tennis freaks like me. :)

Hello,

Try to lower the value of the Magic Tool, to pick up a bit less thing.
Turn on the "anti-alias" option of the Magic Tool, if PSP has it.
And anyway, you should be able to remove a part of the current selection using the rectangle selection... With Photoshop, you can do that by pressing the "alt" key while you do the selection box. I guess PSP must have a similar option.

Good luck with your editing ! :)
