most annoying opponent + Lobs question

Postby EmTom » 27 Sep 2006, 20:50

Hi.

Are lobs (both defensive and agresive) affected by players forhand and backhand skills?

I ask cause i tried to lob mr Taylor Dent with my not-very-good 56/47% skills and totally failed :D

Thanks in advance for your answer!

As a bonus I add a poll about opponent type that all of us hate most ;) My vote goes for volleyers (though it was hard decision as defenders are sometimes a bit annoying too) ;)

I find varied players the toughest. With volleyers, you know they're always coming to net off their serve, so you can hit a low return and occasionally get breaks. With varied, you never know. And if you hit a low return and they stay back, you're usually dead.

Defenders are very easy to beat for me. But, I'm constantly charging the net, so that's probably why.

Hello,

yes, with better skills, you have better chance to do successful lobs, but it's still very hard...

Here a topic giving a bit more info about lobs:

lobs and volleyers

Postby EmTom » 28 Sep 2006, 09:55

Yeah very very hard :)

Its very unusual for a good volleyer to play 3 volleys that i can hit ;) Maybe when my stats go up a little bit...

So does any of you know other ways to beat those guys?

I for example won many points by playing defensive lob and IF the smash is a bit slower I play a lot of acceleretion :) it works usually if I can position my player pretty early.

I also managed to win using half-lob described by Manutoo (link in previous post) but its very very hard.

Waiting for replies. Im really curious how all of you handle volleyers at the net.

Have fun!

The play I use most is to lob the net player, hope he hits a weak smash, and then I go for the pass usually crosscourt. If he hits a good smash, and I'm able to run it down, I'll hit a drop shot.

Or, I'll hit a drop shot and come to net myself off of that. But, if you're going to try that, you style should be of a net player.

Anyway you try, it's very difficult to pass net players in this game.

Yes I agree... That was why I started this topic. I wanted to check whether the rest of players agree. Too bad that only 7 people sent thier votes on most annoying opponent type. If there were more votes on volleyers we would be in position to ask Manutoo to change few things. Maybe it would make game even more realistic.
Anyway thanks for the post Leena ;)

I don't know if realism is such a good thing, because there's very few serve & volleyers left on tour. :(

Hello,

EmTom, don't worry there will have some important changes about volley & volleyers in TE2007 (I think I already said a few words about this in the TE2007 topic), but for TE2006, it'll stay like that, even though I already did a little tuning : volleyers can't do too good volley when they're striking the ball while running. It'll be there the next time I'll update the version on the website.

Anyway, as Leena pointed out, I won't do something 100% realistic, coz in modern tennis, there is almost no volleyer anymore, and it'd be a pity to remove this nice variety & fun way to play from Tennis Elbow.

Next year, when TE2007 will be in development, I'll publish some beta so everybody could tell if the result is pleasant or not, and what should change.

Thnks manutoo for posting here. I totally agree that volleyers should stay. I didnt want to ask for major changes. Just few to make them a little weaker on the net. Seems that you found a way to do it. Maybe you can also set a minimal time between two hits? sometimes when two players are on the net it looks a bit funny when they hit the ball 10 times per second ;)

BTW. I dont think that volleyers as they are now spoil the game or sth.
