For some strange reason (maybe a rare bug), the court selection for the Davis Cup got corrupted and the game was trying to load an non-existing court. Loading a saved game 1 or 2 weeks before the Davis Cup allowed to play again normally.

You can tune him down in Data\Players.ini . Just change his last ranking from 3 to 30 or something like this...
