Pointless is perhaps the wrong word (even if it was my idea to start this poll :D ). It gives men something to believe in i guess but many obviously take it to extremes and there you have terrorism. Also with religion, you have events such as the Crusades, Witch Trials, the Holocaust etc.

Then again without religion much of the worlds artifacts would not exist. Artists such as Michelangelo would not have been inspired to paint the roof of the Sistine Chapel.

I don't place much stock in religion, but pointless is harsh.
