Tennis Elbow 2009 1.0a

Postby manutoo » 17 Feb 2009, 16:37

Hello,

Tennis Elbow 2009 v1.0a is released (Build 26) :
https://www.managames.com/download.php?TE2009_fe1a.exe [Permanent direct download link to the latest version]
http://toogame.free.fr/Files/TennisElbow2009.exe [Mirror site for people having corrupted download from managames.com - but not up to date all the time]

New Features :
- Gestures : 2 new gestures : applauding & sorry ; gestures are now context sensitive; ie: you can do the raging fist only when winning a point, not losing it ; all gestures are now remapped to B1+B2+down & B1+B2+up
- World Tour : Tournament past champions screen
- Wildcard : tournament directors of the following week can propose you a wildcard when you reach the semifinals or better of your current tournament
- Wildcard : can get a wildcard when entering a full tournament in your home country (it's automatic, it depends if other players already got wildcard or not)
- Wildcard : CPU players can get wildcard for Challengers, Futures & qualifying draws
- Gameplay : the ball randomly touches the net during the serve
- WorldTour : added a warning when selecting a tournament occurring in more than 30 weeks
- WorldTour : now, if you don't play in December, you get a little bonus of experience points

Changes :
- World Tour : some players tuned
- Gameplay : the more the ball is low under the waist, the less top spin one can put in it (both for human & CPU players)
- Gameplay : low volley & medium volleys are noticeably more effective
- Gameplay : drop shots can't fly super fast away anymore
- AI : the CPU player rushes the net a lot better when doing a serve-and-volley
- Online : Autolag calculation slightly tuned to take more in account the variation of ping, so it should be a bit higher when the ping is instable

Bug Fixes:
- World Tour : now, in windowed mode, if you exit the game by clicking on the top-right cross, when you are in a menu without the "Exit" button, then the game won't be saved anymore, instead of saving a corrupted state (so you'll lose all progress made since the last automatically saved game) ; this bug has been incorrectly reported as fixed in the previous build
- Settings : the Autopos & Preview settings aren't overwritten anymore when playing online
- AI : CPU players slide a bit less when doing gestures after a run

Notes :
- Changelog of previous versions is here : topic15-1711.php
- as usually, if you notice any glitch or bug, thanks to report them !
- don't forget to exit TE2009 before to install the latest version

Important Note :
Post in this topic only if it's related to the latest new version, ie only for these 2 cases :
- about a point listed in the New Features / Changes / Bug Fixes
- about a bug that you are sure didn't happen in the previous version but happens in the new one (else, post in the "Bug Report" forum)
Do not write about anything else, else I may delete your post without any prior warning (or at very least, I won't answer it) ; if you're not sure your topic is related or not to the latest version, just create a new topic in the forum, it'll be fine...

Also on a side note, don't send me PM ( = Private Message) except for Private thing. Everything that can be read by everybody should be pointed out / asked in the forum, so my comments & answers could also be read by everybody, and hopefully, I won't have to write them again when someone else will have the same comments / questions...

Build 28, February 27th:

New Features :
- Stat Info : last winner speed randomly appears
- Visual Helpers : "Show Error Info" can be disabled in the in-game options

Changes :
- Gameplay : now, when you strike a too difficult ball after the baseline and/or do the safe strike, you'll send the ball too long instead of sending it in the net

Bug Fixes:
- Language : Croatian not crashing game anymore
- Gestures : up & down aren't inverted anymore when joining an online game
- Online : removed a bug when hosting & having the client disconnected
- Past champions screen : Cannot access anymore the past draws when seeing the Past Champions from a Draw pop-up to prevent the game to hang

Build 29, March 17th:

New Features :
- Match replay : now you can record & replay your matches..! It's in Beta stage, so for advanced users only, but have a look here for more info : topic29-2043.php
- Cheat : can change the speed & acceleration of the CPU players

Changes :
- Physics : ball bounce tuned on most courts
- Gameplay : short strike is a bit faster, especially with a precision higher than the power
- Gameplay : in World Tour, female players are a bit more powerful, especially when they have high power skills
- Service : topspin & kick serves have more spin, thus the bounce is higher
- Gameplay : precision lowered when hitting the ball in a new direction (ie: the ball is coming from the left, and you send it to the right) ; and even a lot more lowered when hitting with a 1-hand backhand ; the lowering is especially noticeable when you don't center correctly the ball in your cords, or/and on difficult balls

Bug Fixes:
- Wildcard : no WC message for future qualies anymore
- Gesture : no automatic gesture anymore for your player
- Online : I did a little fix that may lead to less desync when playing in windowed mode ; let me know if u notice anything

Postby manutoo » 23 Mar 2009, 11:00

Build 30, March 23th:

New Features :
- Master Tie Break : u can now choose to do a Master Tie Break for the last set in the Training Club ; in World Tour, Int'l Gold & lower tournaments for men and Tier II and lower tournaments for women have a Master Tie Break for the 3rd set in doubles
- Modding : you can also change the number of points for TB & MTB in the "Tennis.ini", NbTieBreakPoint & NbMasterTbPoint under [Game]
- Online : Antilag precision, topspin & slice bonus ; the time counted for the strike preparation and for the scale of the topspin & slice effects is now raised by the amount of the Lag set by the game Host
- Sound : can turn off the line judge calls when the ball doesn't pass the net ; in Tennis.ini, look for FaultOnSameSide, under [Sound], and set it to 0

Changes :
- Physics : ball bounce tuned on some courts (again  )
- Gameplay : topspin strike length handicap is now bigger when you stand far from the baseline and put a lot of topspin in the ball (ie: it'll help to beat CPU players with a very high topspin skill)
- Service : topspin service bounce height and speed lowered a bit

Bug Fixes:
- Gesture : animation could be played 2 times too fast sometimes ; now the animation speed should be always correct
- Whole Match Recording : many debugging & tuning ; report your tests & post your recorded matches in this topic : topic29-2061.php

Build 31, March 30th:

Changes :
- Gameplay : in World Tour, female players topspin max has been lowered
- Gameplay : dropshot tuned, so it should be a nice curve most of time, and not catch the net too often (*)

Bug Fixes :
- Loading : maybe a hanging at initial loading of the game removed
- Online : new Autolag was 2 times too big... (**)

Notes :
(*) : it was pretty unrealistic, I very wonder why no one complained about it (only CC said a word about it, but to say he liked the free points from it ;) )
(**) : same, the new Autolag must have made you all lag too much, I wonder why I didn't get any report...
- Holidays : I'm going to be in half-holidays in the next following weeks, in a place with a good Internet connection (hopefully :fear: ), so if u see a "ManuTOO" online by the end of the week, it could be me... ;)

New Features :
- Online : antilag for aiming & running => now the higher the lag is, the bigger speed bonus u'll get when starting to run & changing direction
- Online Chat : can see what ur opponent is writing in real time

Changes :
- Gameplay : precision of lobbing with no opponent at net has been noticeably lowered, thus u need to prepare your lob early if you want to be sure it won't be too long
- Online : now desync can be detected earlier in the point, not only at end of point

Bug Fixes:
- Online : now on resynchronization, the return & serve positions are reset, which should remove a few of the never ending desync
- Online : a speed cheat exploit has been removed (thanks to Leena to have reported it :) )
- Menu : the game is correctly unactivated when switching to another application after have already logged in the online mode

Build 33, April 13th:

Changes :
- Online : antilag speed bonus lowered by 50%

Note :
- for people who wonder why the bonus was so big, it's coz I had only tested it offline, without lag ; thus it was feeling quite nice & easy to control ; but with the lag, it was surely quite annoying...

Hey manutoo, I was just wondering something.

I realised that my player keeps hitting top spin shots long, whereas the acceleration shots have never gone long once. And i was thinking, surely it should be the otherway round, when top spin is supposed to make the ball fly more stabley. Just a thought

I concur with ahmedcoolio. It looks like in addressing the lag issue we've created another problem. The higher the lag, the more likely my shots are going long/wide. Now I'm just afraid of holding the acceleration key for more than a second :?

ahmedcoolio & other people having problem with timing : I just did my 1st game with a lag of 117ms ( = the max possible), and I'm really very pleased with the new timing, it's a lot more close of the timing when playing against the CPU, without any lag.
The problem is when u push left or right too long time, and release before hitting the ball, the timing isn't same, it depends of lag, so it won't work perfectly in such case.
I guess after a few matches, u should get used with the new timing... (coz it's almost the same than playing without lag)

peixe12, what's wrong ?

R.Gasquet, i guess it's coz u do the topspin when u're short on time and/or badly positionned, and the acceleration when u have enough time & stand in a correct position.

I just played for the first time with the new build and I agree with what others have been saying. It's like learning how to play all over again cuz the time's totally different. I used to use a lot of margin on my shots (like not that close to the lines) but now those shots are on the lines, and the ones that were on the lines are now way out. I don't think it's like playing without lag at all. We've all had lots of time to get used to the old timing and now all that's gone out the window.

I agree with Tog,whole feel of the game was gone and i guess we have to play many more matches before we get used to it again :? It was so difficult to play the final without any practice. Anyways nothing we can do about it now.Lets see how much we can get used to the conditions now :(
