ATP WORLD TOUR RULEBOOK wrote:A player shall use his best efforts during the match when competing in a tournament. [...] For purposes of this rule, the supervisor and/or the chair umpire shall have the authority to penalize a player in accordance with the Point Penalty Schedule. In circumstances that are flagrant and particularly injurious to the success of a tournament, or are singularly egregious, a single violation of this section shall also constitute the player Major Offense of Aggravated Behavior.

I think there's no reason to explain why virtual game tournaments don't have this rule.

Kind regards,
Heinrich von Westphalen.

I guess this is the same for virtual and real matches.

Okay, apparantly there's a need. A virtual tour is very different, because

  1. it doesn't have an audience (who paid money to watch tennis),
  2. the players didn't sign contracts,
  3. there are no bets on the matches,
  4. has no chair umpire / supervisor,
  5. there's no real money behind it,
  6. Random Luck, arbitrary walkovers etc. wouldn't be allowed,
  7. etc. pp. ...

Kind regards,
Heinrich von Westphalen.

Actually, there is/have been.

It's about respect, that tops all the reasons Heinrich listed. One can very much realize your opponent isn't trying.

That's what I am talking...even though it is impossible to strictly apply the rule due to the impossibility of having an umpire, even bystanders can judge that some of the weird results or early retirement in recent times are very much against the ideal of sportsmanship. The impossibility of an umpire isn't an excuse...players should be able to self-regulate themselves if they respect their opponents...
