Bipolar key?

My friend bought me a working key for my birthday and it worked perfectly for about two weeks. Now, it says that I am using a trial version. But then the other day I loaded up the game and the key worked. I tried it on a new computer and the key worked there. But it has gone back to saying "trial" on my home computer. What's going on?
