CPU Players Consistency

Postby Guest » 02 Feb 2006, 05:14

I've noticed that the better players tend to hit out less often, and the higher the difficulty the more consistant they are. I really would like a way to edit "consistancy". This is crucial to make a true tennis simulation, since there are many players who can hit just as hard as the top players, but are much less consistant. In this game, you either have 80% or 40% on forehand, and I assume that is only for power. Please, please if you could let "consistancy" be editable that would improve this game so much. I already love it, but that would bring it to a new level that I have never seen before (please try).

Another quick question. How can court surfaces (the bounce/speed, not appearence) be changed? This would also make the game more user friendly and another huge bonus for editors.

Hello,

yes, now the consistency and the power are both directly dependant of the skill percentage.
For Tennis Elbow 2007 (available at end of this year, if everything goes as planned), the forehand and backhand skills will be split in 3 sub-skills :
- power
- consistency
- precision

And yup, you can change the court physics, for each court.
To do so, you have to access files in the Data\Pak01.Pak file. There's explanations about that in the file Data\HowToMod.html .
Then open the files Data\Court0x\Court.ini (with x from 1 to 7, for each court) with the notepad, and there you can change the physics parameters.

Hello,

you can expect to see Tennis Elbow 2006 released within less than 2 months.
A bit more info in this topic :
https://www.managames.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?p=1124

and no sorry, the new characteristics won't be there before long time, as it'll be integrated in a complete new build of the game engine, including new ball trajectories, more realistic on extremes :
- when the ball is very slow (ie: drop-shot)
- when the ball is very fast (ie: powerful services)
and if all goes well, many other new things in the game itself ... :)

By the way, are u a native english speaker ? (I'm not ;) )
I thought the good term was "regularity" instead of "consistency", am I wrong ?

Yes, I live in the U.S. and "consistancy" refers to basically keeping the ball in the court. "Regularity" makes sense I guess, but at least in the U.S. I've never heard that to describe consistancy. Maybe in UK 8) .

Never heard of regularity. Consistency would be the right word.
